Not sure there is any advice that can prepare you for this wide range if patterns.  Certainly no formula.  Best advice is to work on finding ways to square up an cut down out angle through the heads.  You won't be able to find a ball or shell prep that will give you the kind of swing area you are accustomed to. 

As for the patterns themselves the length is the most important element.  There are several on the list in the 45 47 foot range.  General approach will be similar.  Same with shorter patterns in the 35 37 foot range. 

Plastic ball to use on almost all of your spares.

Whatever the length of the pattern minus 31 will give you approximately where
the ball has to to be at the break for optimum entry angle.

38 foot pattern minus 31 puts the break around 7

45 foot pattern minus 31 put the break around 14

Otherwise shorter patterns you play out and longer patterns you play in

The volume of pattern will dictate what ball / coverstock combination  to use

The main thing is where other bowlers play and what type of equipment they use on that pattern as they can destroy whatever was put out pretty quick and you may be out to lunch.

Making spares. good advice, but I guess that can be expanded on rather than telling someone to make their spares.

Some general things I've learned from sport shot league and spare shooting:

1) If you are putting some hook on ball, you may be using the house shot to help with many 10 (7) pin leaves. On house shot you can throw the ball into gutter and it'll come back and you knock out corner pin and if you pull it, it's in the oil. On sport shot, if you use reactive ball, throw it into gutter and expect it too hook into 10 pin, it's in gutter. Except on short oil, you'll miss left.

So don't practice spare pin shooting as it's a house shot. You have to either be very good at killing hook, or just go with plastic/urethane. Unless you are very good at killing your hook, you need a spare ball.

2) It doesn't matter how good you are at spare shooting if you are leaving 2- 3 splits a game and then some multi-pin spares. On the house shot you are trying to get better carry in the pocket. For sport shot, you just need to get back to the pocket - try not to give pocket away. It's very easy to leave washouts if you get the ball too far outside.

Other thing, should go without saying, but have seen people make this mistake, don't make house shot adjustments.
For example, on a 40 foot pattern, if you target 10th board and it comes a little high, a typical move would be inside and target 12th board. Don't do that on sport shot, you'll cross over. Instead would be better to move everything right and target 8th board.

For most people starting out on a sport shot, it's not going to be about the minutiae of how to play each pattern for max carry. It's going to be about basic adjustments,  keeping it in the pocket and making good shots.

For shorter patters, they are actually easy, but need to be used to playing outside. I've found it helps to practice on house shot with plastic over 4 or 5 board, and then in league you'll be used to doing that.

I think carry is actually better than on house shot, as long as you get it into pocket.

Bowling rebel makes a bunch of good suggestions.  The biggest thing to consider is what type of game you have on a THS.  If you are a high rev high axis rotation player there really isn't much you are going to be able to do to prepare in the short run except follow the spare shooting suggestions.  If you are a straighter player already just getting better at squaring up and be willing to try different parts of the lane will help.
