Last sunday at a tourney, I threw over 5 first balls in the gutter. It happens, just couldnt get my groove on lol.

I had a great moment at a tourney last year. I'm grinding my way through a set, trying to get something going in order to make the cut. I finally throw a double. I line up to throw my next shot, finally feeling as if I might have a reaction to work with. I go through my approach and release ball. The next thing I know, I'm lying in the gutter. Even though I never left the settee  area, and I was standing in the same spot that I had been standing between every shot, I stepped in a big glob of something and stuck so bad that I launched myself over the foul line face first. Needless to say, I foul, giving my 0 on my double, and a whole lot of embarassment. Since that time, I've learned to test my slide foot on the approach before stepping up for every shot. That's learning a lesson the really hard way.

A few years back I bought the Pro Release with the extended finger support. It was the first night on our Tuesday night mix league when I decided to try it. Well I placed it on and adjusted all of the straps. I then picked up my ball (felt okay)  and started towards the line. Once the ball reached about the halfway point of my backswing the ball just came straight off of my hand. Needless to say it hit the floor and rolled back into the seating area. I turned around and everyone was a kind looking for my reaction. Well I smiled and walked back to my ball, picked it up and started my approach again. And yes you guessed it, I dropped the ball for the second time it a row!

Now everyone was looking at me and I was “upset”.  I calmly went over to my bag took off the wrist support made a ball change and threw a strike. I went home and cut off the extended finger support and it has worked perfectly ever since.

My most embarrassing moment occurred when I was about 11-12 years old and I wanted to really crank a shot but had no idea how to do it. As I'm trying to let go of the ball I turn my wrist/hand and I manage to hang onto the ball WAY too long. It goes almost straight up and plops on the lane at about the 5 board, bounces into the gutter and flops over onto the next lane, where some other kid is waiting to shoot at a spare. And it was at a tournament, no less.

A couple of times when I was a junior I tried using powder and my hand stuck in the ball, so I landed on the lane with the ball. That really sucked at the time!

And at state tournament (also when I was a junior), my slacks tore from my crotch all the way up to the belt line in the back. Unlike Mark Baker, I wore underwear at the time so it wasn't as bad as his experience, but it was still bad enough. After finishing my game bowling with my towel tucked into my waist, I persuaded the tournament officials to allow me to wear jeans instead of slacks to finish my session.

All of these things happened many, many years ago. I hope this doesn't mean that I'm due. Perhaps I'll drop the ball on my foot tonight!
