Need help picking a ball to buy for Vegas USBC.
« on: December 21, 2008, 08:44:24 PM »
I want to buy a new ball to take to Vegas. I am going to take 4 ball plus a spare ball. The three I am going to take are my Lane masters New Standard, Yeah Baby, Roto Grip Cell. What suggestions do you have? I am open to any brand. Thanks in advance for any help.

As your heavy and medium oil balls are symmetrical, I'd recommend an asymmetrical ball that creates a decent amount of flare.  I love the Immortals by Visionary...you'd have to pick which one matches up best with your game.  Roto-Grip's SD-73 Classic also has extraordinary flare potential.  My personal favorites right now are the Break series from 900 Global, smooth and strong with just a hint of jump into the pocket...again you'd have to pick which would match best with your game and any holes you're looking to fill in your current arsenal.

Good luck!

You have 3 very strong balls. Unless one of the them has a LOT of polish or you have very high ball speed, you need at least one light to medium-light oil ball for singles and doubles. Preferably, two. As someone who has bowled the last few Nationals, and since you have already decided to take 4 strike balls, I'd recommend 2 strong and 2 light to medium oil balls.

Having had both the NS and the Cell, polishing both or putting a 4000 Abralon finish of the Cell can allow them both to handle medium oil. I'd suggest doing that to one of them. And finding a resin pearl for medium-light oil.

In singles and doubles, you can encounter anything from a 1-2 board move inside from the team shot to completely burnt up shot requiring a move to the 4th or 5th arrow with a very mild ball. Likely, the Sgl/Dbls shot will be some between these extremes.

Good luck.

You need a ball for dryer conditions, try this one from Lane masters...

Lane masters-HORNET, one great ball with great hitting power.

So you need to settle an age-old debate for me. Is your real name like Charles with a last name that starts with T, or is charlest some ridiculous World of Warcraft character or something? Thanks.

Why not wait until you get here find out how the lanes are playing and then make a choice. The prices are going to fair to good and you might score much better this way.

I ended up using my dead TNV as the main ball and scored well with it.

Charlest is right. You can run into anythng from fresh heavy oil to toast and you'll need a light oil - toasted shot ball
