I frequent the South Point at least once a year to bowl a tourney in late June (on there THS). Everytime I've bowled there the lanes have been on the drier side. I traditional am a "down-and-in" type bowler and last June and this past January I bowled in tournaments there and they were just as dry as previous trips there. I use Lane Masters equipment and all I used was a Black Pearl Reactive (highly polished) and a spare ball, all my other equipment stayed in the bag. Also, I noticed the last 3 times I've bowled there that there was quite a big bumper to bump it off the gutter and it also seemed that lanes 1-32 are drier than 33-64. Again, just my opinion.
In January when I bowled at the SouthPoint I also bowled at Red Rock in the Tournament of Champions Pro-Am (THS) and the lanes were dry there as well, I think it has to do with the area of the country. Pretty much everywhere I've personally bowled there has been dry dating back to the old Showboat.
Pin carry is pretty good, I have a tendency to leave quite a few 10 pins on all types of hits there, the approaches are well maintained and the staff there is pretty good. Mike Caverley (I think this is his last name)in the Pro-Shop is as top-notch as they come and is very knowledgable. You won't be disappointed while there, don't forget to mention the South Point Pro Shop website and receive 15% off any purchase of $25 and up(*Does not include sales items).
Remember your mileage may vary based on your individual styles. Also, the South Point is located on the Las Vegas Blvd just a hair under 6 miles west of Mandalay Bay.
Hope this helps,
