Author Topic: Need help with 42 ft wall street shot (Read 17072 times)

I am new to this. I am having difficulty trying to figure out a shot in a house that has a 42 ft wall street shot on synthetic lanes. There are very few units of oil outside the 10 board, and because of the heavy oil in the middle, there are a lot of bowlers out there, so it dries up quickly. I am a tweener, carry about 220+avg on most house shots, but can't find anything that's consistent on this shot. I have tried solid balls, polished balls, pearls. My next move is to take some older balls there to see if something will work. I would appreciate any input on what sort of ball and drill pattern to use on this sort of shot. Our city and State tournaments are at the same place, and I've heard they are going out to the 5 board with the oil, so I am willing to consider about any ideas. I have tried changing hand positions to go more on the side, but I get inconsistent finish. The polished and pearl balls seem over/under. The best scores I have had have been with Nano and just trying to keep it from about 11 to 9/10, but the reaction thru the heads sometimes skids it to far out and it jumps to the nose. I am considering something very aggressive so I can go a few boards inside farther. I think if I do this, I need something that won't roll too quick and stay in the oil and skid. Definitely need strong finish. Thanks for any input!

I too, sometimes run into the same problems as you mentioned while even in a 5-man league,etc. If I were you I would take the surface down on the Nano to about 500 or so and continue to stay away from the track or outside of the track... The Nano will look shiny after 3-5 games so its common to have to take the surface down constantly to keep it dull. It doesnt not hurt the ball in any way though so sand away. I would also do it by hand to give you the best ball reaction instead of putting it on a ball spinner,etc. Just go in circular motions and use cleaner/water when doing so.

One of the worst moves to try to fix this, is to move outside with weaker balls because you will end up beating your head against the wall moving after ever 2 shots,etc. Its best to get where nobody is playing so your transitions will be minimized and you can stay in the same spot all night... This may however require slower ball speeds, but Im sure that it would be a better attack than trying to complicate things in such ways. Hope that helps, John

Surface is a great suggestion, it will even out the "bounce" you're getting off of the outside, and then help the ball pick up the middle a little better. Once the track blows up you should be able to move and throw some shiny stuff.

Unlike WALL STREET of today, this 40 foot pattern yields no surprises and is very defined at the 10th board. To be successful on the WALL STREET, we advise you to place your slide position near the big dot and bowl over the second arrow so your scores will flourish!

We downloaded Wall Street, and use it for our house shot this year. Scores are higher than they have been in years. Tug room inside and miss room outside, but the further outside the tougher it becomes due to very little oil.

I like the idea of pearl reactives without the polish (2000-4000) to blend the reaction out. Most play in the 12-13 board area with a slight swing shot.

There is no 42 foot version as far as I know.

On edit, Kegel has a 42 foot pattern called Stone Street. I wonder which one you are actually bowling on. I refer you to www.kegel.net under "recreational patterns".

Thanks John, I have a dull cover cell that may also work, as the Nano is my best option on the easier Thursday house shot and have consistently been over 700 with it there. I don't want to burn it up, so I think I will see what I can do with the cell first. What you said at the end is exactly what I have been trying to do, and I am beating my head against the wall, so to speak. Thanks!!

It may actually be the stone street shot. I will check that out. I have tried what Kegel says to do on the Wall Street and the ball generally skids into the dry too far and then snaps back too far. I also have to put too much speed on it and lose accuracy. I would like to thank everyone for the responses. Perhaps more surface would keep the ball from skidding too far into the dry boards. This shot seems to be giving most people trouble except the crankers who can take advantage of the oil and the back end, or those who are flat handing it from the outside, and even they start to struggle since there are so many of them out there.

The more wet/dry the lane becomes, your laydown angles will be come extreme. If the shot is more blended, a wider variety of styles and angles can be used. When the shot is very wet/dry, you generally need to be either very direct or even right to left through the front part of the lane (if you lean towards a speed dominant style). If you lean more towards the rev dominant style (lower ball speed or higher rev rate relative to speed), then you might want to go to a more aggressive ball and have a more angular attack through the front part of the lane. If you are cycling through all of your balls and nothing works, then most likely you are physically attacking the lane incorrectly.

Our house shot is Kegel Stone Street, which is 42' and I play up the boards with a Wicked Siege. Our lane surface is Brunswick Pro Anvil and I can use the Nexus Solid, but the shot opens up real quick and I can stay lined up longer with my Wicked!! I have the Wicked drilled pin below bridge with a 45 degree drill angle!! I start practice by playing right of 10 board and as they start to open up I make parallel moves in with my feet and eyes/target!!! I also use a Revolver with the pin in the ring finger with a similar drill angle as the Wicked!! Just my $.02, Bruce

Train a child up in the way they should go and when they are old they will do some "Damn Good Bowling", be a "DV8" and not turn from it, besides bowling starts with a Big B!
