« on: August 15, 2008, 02:30:23 AM »
i'm trying to figure out what type of ball would be best for a friend of mine he has a really bad habit of suitcasing everything that and he polishes the crap outta everything the the stuff he has now is a horizon solid and hammer 2001 both polished to a T. with his slower speed and little to no rev rate what kinda ball would you all advice for him he's in his 60's wont change but still avg. in the 180's. I will add that Morich, brunswick wont fly with this guy since he wont buy anything made you know where. your opinion will be greatly appreciated

even when still in oob cover he couldnt get the horizon solid to hook more than a couple boards i drilled it based on his pap a 4x4 so im not sure a lighter flippier ball would be a anwser for him he had a domination and it worked ok but he got rid of it because of the sharper angle

I'm not sure, but I dont think MoRich is made in Mexico, so dont jump on me if I'm wrong.

He could go with the C-300 Dead Flush, Storm Rapid Fire Pearl, Hammer Black Widow Pearl or new Venom.

I have seen quite a few people around my area who suitcase their ball and they can do very well, as long as their ball has good backend movement.

You might want to look at a Roto Grip Grand Illusion, also comes polished but mine has a good move on the backend.

Depending on the price he wants to pay, the BW Pearl or Venom, Ebonite Playmaker, if you can find one the Hammer Doom or Toxic.  Momentum maybe.

if he likes to polish balls for fun, get him a MoRich LevRG or Ntense LevRG, drill it strong, like a 4x4 and then let him polish them, they should still be able to move very well.

on edit: I like the look of an original LevRG polished, something about the light blue, black, and pink

Then it seems he's placed you in a no-win situation. His rev rate doesn't allow balls to hook much, but a sharper hooking ball, like the Domination, he doesn't like.

I was thinking of using a sharper hooking drilling pattern but if he doesn't like the Domination, he won't like the sharper reacting drillings for solids.

ALl I can thinking of is some of what has already been recommended: oilers that go longer and hook more: like the Black Widow-types, the Venom, the Momentum, N'sane LevRg (yes, made in Mexico).

Maybe the Break S75: a polished oiler that gets length, OR the Uprising (big length and huge backend from a polished solid for medium oil). It's already 4000 grit Abralon plus polish, OR the original Kinetic, another big length, strong backend solid resin ball, already highly polished.

Ebonite's the One, a big hooking ball, with a 4000 grit Abralon finish (no polish)

A polished Buzzbomb??

Trying to help people who won't help themselves is stressfull.

Like charlest said this is kind of a no-win situation here.  If I understand this correctly, the only stuff that will work for him is big backend stuff, but he doesn't like that reaction?  I would have guessed something that rolls quite a bit would be nice, something like a Resurgence.  I think he needs to stop polishing his stuff as it's probably creating too much length for his style.  Other than that, the balls charlest suggested should all be proper candidates.

When he shows up at the bowling alley before practice starts, take his ball out of the bag and knock the polish off by hand, and make him throw it for a night and tell him to quit worrying about how the ball looks -- all that matters is how the score sheet looks!  I know stubborn old guys like him.  You aren't going to change his release, but you can definately fix minor things if you can show him the benefit the right way.
