I've been struggling with a bad fit for 2+ seasons now... can't seem to figure it out. Does anyone have recommendations for a good fitting proshop in the Philadelphia area? If not, I will be in Kansas City next week, and Tampa early December.
Thanks,
Scott

Hey Scott. I forget the place, but there used to be a guy about 40-45 minutes outside of Philadelphia that used to specialize in the "Max-Y" grip. I used it for a year and a half around 01-02 and did some of the best bowling I ever did, but I had the hardest time finding a driller that could replicate that fit. By the time I started drilling in 03, I left that set of balls behind and to this day I wish I had something that felt as good as the set that he drilled for me.
I'll track my friend from Philadelphia down who put me on to that guy and I'll get his info to you if he is still around. The center and shop he was in was like a small warehouse with about 12 lanes or so in it and alot of high tech equipment. He did a lot of work for PBA pros and was only open in the shop for a few days a week back then. Hopefully he's still doing business.

Also try Skip at the Palace in Downingtown. Not too far from philly. I've personally never had anything drilled by him bc he is over an hour from me, but I've also never heard of a complaint about him.

Going to be in the Allentown area this weekends well. I assume there are some good shops there too...just not familiar with any...

When I am in Philly I use the pro shop inside amf Bristol pike lanes in Croyden.....He is very good......When in Florida I use rsw pro shop in Lady Lake......He is the best for hard to fit hands I have ever used

I have a friend who uses the guy in Lady Lake also!
The guy with the Max Y grip is Carl Hoefner?(sp) Isn't that right?

I was in Kansas City earlier this week. I sent Russ at jayhawk a note and asked if he could recomment a shop in the area. Russ sent me to see Brian Horn in Oleathe. I showed up Tuesday night and found Brian bowling league. He took the time in between frames to open the shop and help me out. Checked span and pitches and made a few recommendations. Two major changes were reverse pitch in my fingers to account for my poor flexibility and a smaller ovalled thumb. I had a ball drilled up last night when I returned home and will give it a shot this weekend. Overall much more relaxed fit... I think this should be a big improvement.
If anyone is in the KC area, I would highly recomment visiting Brian. He went out of his way to help... It was appreciated.

Carl Hoffmire is the Max Y guy and a friend of mine. I have used his grip and it is a very excellent option if your looking for something new. If you are honest about what you need Carl will show you how to duplicate the grip and what info you need to give your ball driller back home.
I live in the Allentown area and could of pointed you to good pro shops here but I missed this post by a few days.
