Title: Need PK18 and weak core. Any suggestions?
Post by: Belgarion on February 13, 2004, 05:47:14 AM
Looking at the graph for nationals, and seeing how the volumes are not that heavy, I am looking for a ball with PK18 and a medium to weak core.

I love the way polished PK18 glides through even slightly burnt heads when the core isn't super aggressive.  Threw a buddies black buzzsaw for 10 games on a shot that burnt up quick.  It got down the lane amazingly, when my time zone (with the same surface) would hook at my feet.

So I am looking for a ball that may meet these spec's.  I may end up with a V2, drill it fairly weak and polish it, but I would love to find something weak with solid cover as pearls give me too much over/under in this condition (esp when there is an OB outside)

Just wondering if a ball like this exists, as I do not know much about brunswick.  Any help and suggestions are appreciated

You could try a Lane #1 Cranberry Buzzsaw/C. It has a PK18 cover. It's probably a little cleaner thru the front, as compared to the Blueberry or Black Raspberry, but overall, very close. =:^D

Monster Bruiser?

Read the Brunswick forums, especially Allstar23's post.  There's some good info about how strong and how much dry the Bruiser needs.

You may want to consider the Monster Bruiser.  It has a PowrKoil 18 cover, and the Quantum core revs evenly.  Very predictable move overall.

Mine will be in the bag for Nationals.

Aye, if you can find one I would suggest a Pink/black/blue berry.

If not, the monster bruiser is a great choice.

One other choice, the asymmetrical core in the Time Zone lends itself to some exotic (and very effective) drillings. You may consider a time zone with a different drilling as well.

The problem about looking at a lane graph and seeing that the pattern doesn't have a lot of oil on the lane, in terms of volume, probably won't tell you as much as seeing the surface it self and playing the lane as it is right there and then.

You have to remember the lane surface in reno is about 8 years old, and is the Brunswick Anvilane brand surface. That surface plays so slick (because it is so smooth), that a 35' pattern, lets say PBA pattern E, will play a lot tighter than it would on the AMF HPL surface or wood surface.

What I am saying is... bring your stuff with you. If you have a wide variety of equipment, bring it to the tournament and make sure you take it out of the bag at the right time. You only have a few frames to make it happen. Good luck in Reno.
