Need revs
« on: February 12, 2009, 12:44:59 AM »
Guys I hope someone can help. I wear a brace and have worn it for 3 years. Recently it seems like I cant get the ball to do anything. I just got a Hammer Sauce and I can't get the thing to hook. It just seems I can't get my hand around the ball at all. Is there any hint, tips, videos and I can get from you guys? Thanks for the help.

Ron's got a lot of articles on many aspects of bowling.  Oft times the cure is not what you think.  Read away and enjoy!

There are alot of good bowlers on here that would give you better advice than me.  But, the things that helped me:
1.  Get rid of the brace
2.  The soft cushiony part of your palm has to be flush on the ball.  That part of the hand actually "pushes" the ball through release.
3.  The thumb must come out first leaving the ball on my fingers for that split second.  That's what creates the revs.

rent a lane for an hour, don't keep score and just work on finding that feeling.

SOME TIMES IF YOU TAKE THE BRACE OFF AND GET A "FEEL" FOR THE BALL THAT CAN HELP GET YOU STRAIGHTENED OUT!

What's the lane condition? The Sauce is a ball for heavy oil, one explanation why it won't hook (or do you have the same problem on weaker pieces, too?) is that there is simply not enough oil on the lane for it, it is burning up and has lost all of its steam before it even enters the back end, rolling out.

Guys I appreciate the answers BUT I need the brace due to injuries to my wrist. I have extreme pain without it after the second game.

1. Get rid that brace. Begin with a view frames every game. Your pain maybe comes from using the brace and still release the wrong way.

2. Do a video and post it here, for me the answers were very enlightening. Ballreviews poeple tent to be polite and gives you awesome suggestions to fix your game.

3. Put a tape from your PAP to the gripcenter watch the ball revving up. It could be its the wrong ball for your condition or need a surface adjustment. Without knowing when your ball "stand up" and rolls you will not be able to tell.

4. Could it be, a "weaker" ball rolls and turns better on that lanes? If so, chances are that you have to much ball for that lane conditions.

Hope this helps

Try just taping up your wrist. I have problems too. I have tried just about everything and wrapping with tape keeps the pain away and also allows me to feel the ball. what kind of brace do you use?

It looks like that particular brace has the ability to adjust the top part left to right? Set it to the strongest position possible (palm facing up, pinky finger turned in towards your body)and come up the back of the ball.

If anything you have an advantage using that brace to gain some revs with consistency.

did you have your span adjusted after you started wearing the brace?
maybe you need to shorten it to get that good feel.

se7en when you mean come up the back you mean like thrwing a straight ball. If so I have tried that and it did not hook. It looked more like a spinner going down the lane.

if it looks like a spinner going down the lane, probably you are turning too much....try to stay behind the ball longer and end with a palm facing your face finishing position you should be able to see more revs and hook from there
