Need some opinions
« on: April 26, 2010, 11:25:42 AM »
I''m looking for a strong pearl bowling ball. The maker isn''t that important, just looking for something that will give a big turn on the backend. I like to play staighter up the boards around 8 to 12 board with ball speed around 17 mph. I''m looking for something that will get through the heads and grab hard on the backend.

Thanks

Try the Brunswick Python.  IMO an underrated ball at an excellent price point.

Storm Reign, its the strongest pearl I have ever thrown.

Allstarbowling-joe has some good x-comp Reigns for sale. Good price too.

Tank, that is the exact same area I prefer and I have been having great success with the Lane 1 Blue Death playing that area. Some like the Lane 1 Curve for what you are hunting a ball for while others like myself like the Lane 1 Blue Death. I haven't thrown the Curve and being so happy with my Blue Death, I don't really have a reason to get one. Either one should fill your needs there.

Around these parts (Northeast), I can't tell you how many are throwing the Storm Reign and getting this look.  Very clean through the fronts and a really big move on the back end.  Initially, I wasn't totally sold on the ball, but it works very well in the local houses on a THS.

I would second Martman with the Python.  I have one and it was much stronger than I expected.  Another good ball would be a rattler which has a stronger backend reaction to friction than the Python.  Either ball would be a good choice.

Just out of curiosity, what is your bowling style (stroker, tweener, cranker)  Also, is the 17mph at the pins or at your release?

Reason,  is that if you are a stroker, you should go with something like a Reign or 920A (higher end).  If you are more a tweener or cranker, you may want to go with something more mid performance that still has a strong cover (Rattler, Python, LaneBreaker, 715A).  Another consideration is the Freeze which has a high end cover that people say is stronger than they thought and strong off the dry but is well below high end cost.
