Need some opinions on these balls
« on: March 05, 2010, 10:54:32 AM »
Hey guys,
Familiar story, just getting back into bowling again, met with a local pro to get some recommendations on a new ball.
I was given a few recommendations, but it still didn't help me make a choice, just kind of made it a little more difficult to pull the trigger.
So, I'd like hear anyones experiences and opinions on the balls recommended to me here.
1) Storm Reign of Fire
2) Roto Grip Riot
3) Brunswick Evil Seige
4) Hammer Raw Hammer Jacked
5) Track 930-T

Thanks in advance guys!

To get good feedback it would help to know what you're looking for out of the ball.  Then maybe if you have a preference that could help narrow it down too.  Would you like something with more backend or something smoother for control?  Do you want it too hook a lot or not very much?  Knowing your speed and revs, as well as the conditions and lane surface you're bowling on, would help a bit too.

Well I find myself liking the balls with a larger overall arc rather then the long roll with a sharp hook late. They seem to be more reproducable to me.
Not sure about my revs etc..my ball speed is on the fast side definately.
I'm new to the area here, and the convenient lanes here I was told was the dryer side of town.
Watching videos, I like the smoother roll and arc of the Reign of Fire, The Riot, and the Motiv QZ1 Purple (which is very smooth, maybe for later games)
After reading alot of reviews, I'm a little apprehensive on the Track 930-T now as alot have consistantly said it's good for the first two games, then it gets hard to control.
E
Ernie,
What was your experience with the Evil Seige?

I'd like to hear from anyone who has some experiences with using these specific balls.
Thanks guys

The Evil Siege is more of a skid/snap ball than any of the others.  The 930T is the strongest so on less than med/heavy oil it will not be a good choice.  As long as you rev rate isn't low you could get the Riot, that is definitely smooth and it's the weakest of the bunch I believe.  But still not too weak in general.  The Reign of Fire or Jacked might be better if you're speed dominant.

It's still a bit of a guess but one of those three are your best options from what you're saying, in my opinion.  Basically go with the Riot if you're always going to be on drier lanes, unless your revs are low and you have trouble getting a ball to hook.  Go with the Reign of Fire if you'll be bowling on a decent amount of oil or if you have low revs.

Maybe if you can compare your revs with a certain pro you can figure out high vs low.  Same for speed, although I would say all the guys throw fast.
