Never realized

Ok I have a monster bruiser that I very rarely throw because of how early this ball starts up. Well today I took the extra 2 minutes and put it in a luster king type polisher and WOW!!! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Not only does it look better lol, but it performs great on the conditions I bowl on. Just thought I'd share this. This is the first time I've ever polished a ball.

As you have now learned, SURFACE is everything. Drillings, no matter how much people harp on it, is a far distant 3rd or 4th factor!

I'm afraid that Surface is still at least 60-80% of a ball's reaction and drillings are maybe 20-40%, at most. With today's incredible cores, drillings have assumed a greater percentage, in my personal book, but are still a distant 2nd.

I have agree charlest.  The drilling determines the SHAPE of hook and the cover determines the overall strength of the ball.

This is where you guys lose me.  You polished the bruiser to handle the conditions you normally bowl on.  I thought the purpose of having an arsenal was to have something to cover all conditions.

Now what happens if you run into a heavy oil condition.  You no longer have a ball to use on it.

I guess where I’m confused is shouldn’t you have equipment in your arsenal that isn’t used that often.  For example my heavy oil ball may get used 2 or 3 times a year, my dry lane ball is the same way.  I’m sure I could adjust the cover to handle my normal THS conditions but I already have equipment for that.

I did this because I dont have a medium oil ball. I have a light oil ball, my slay/r, and I have my bruiser, so I polished it to use it because it was too strong, and my slay/r is too weak. I am in search of a heavy oil ball as we speak.

TheBowlingKid25 -- Be careful using a LusterKing.  There are several different materials that can be put in these, and some of them contain wax.  Wax clogs the pores of reactive or particle balls and kills the reaction.  It may be just what you want now, but if you ever want to bring it back up in strength, you may have to have a complete resurfacing done.  --  JohnP
