Ever have one of those bowling nights where you see somebody do something unusual, and never think you could possibly do the same thing...and you do weeks later?
One of the guys in our Tuesday league has a habit of punching out the 6 pin on a 3-6-10 leave, or the 3 pin on a 1-3-6 leave. He's a righty who throws a big bender for a hook.
Tonight, in game three with a Barbed Wire, I managed to take out only the 2 pin on a 1-2-4 leave (I'm a wrongsider). I don't play a ton of hook, I played it straight up ten board and it didn't move until the last 10 feet, perfectly taking out the middle pin. I stood stunned in disbelief- first time in 29 years I've done that.
Has anything similar happened to anyone else in their bowling experience?

I can't say as I've ever done it, but I've seen a bunch of people put the ball cleanly between the 3-10 or 2-7. I call this 'threading the needle'.
I don't have the problem because I throw plastic very straight at my spares. *hint*

If horse racing is the sport of kings, then surely bowling is a very good sport as well.

Kind of tricky to do, but in this day and age of reactive balls, not that uncommon of a circumstance. I see that around here at least once a week, sometimes more. A hooking bowler will do it more than a stroker (usually) but it can happen to any of us and the powerful balls make it more likely to happen

Just call me Darreyl, it's much easier to say!

i saw a guy take out the 6-8-9 on his last ball to shoot 293

I used to do it every once in a while. Now, like Pin-nut, I throw straight with a plastic ball. The funniest time was when I was using a Blue Hot Flame (very mild, non-snappy resin ball). I didn't flatten my release completely, but I certainly didn't throw much of a hook at the 3-6-10 combos. I never expected a ball like the BHF to jump between the 3-10!

I left the 3-10 split once. On spare shot, I stood at left gutter and threw cross-lane with just a little rotation on the ball. This is how I normally shoot at the 3-10. I put the ball in what appeared to be the perfect place. I hit both pins, but neither fell. They both wiggled their @ss off, but did,nt fall. Weirdest thing I've ever seen or done.

I know a guy who did that in the first series after getting his ball resurfaced. Guess he turned around and yelled "They took too much off!"
I've never slid a ball between those two, but last night I covered the spare by not hitting the 3 pin with the ball.

I go through the 3 pin fairly regularly. It's not uncommon in my league to see the 1-2-4-6-10. I have gone back through it on a number of occasions (but only when the game was out of reach and someone offered me money to do it!). I went through the 3-10 once and also tripped the 3 forward with the ball with too much angle.
Over the summer I took out the 6-9 twice in 1 game. Silly OB outside...lol

same distance between the 3-10 as the 4-6.....

how about taking out the 6-9 on a full rack.

I also witnessed a guy take ten to the pit and one came out of the back and stood up in the 5 pin spot, and he got hung on a beer frame because of it. lol
Ha ha. A few weeks ago we had a guy subbing who hit the pocket light on one ball and left the 5-10. Only the ball just cought enough of the 5 pin to make it start to spin. The 5 pin ended up walking away and ended up stopped in the 7 pin's position, leaving the 7-10 instead of the 5-10.

Earlier this season I threw a shot and the ball hung up in the oil and left me the 1-2-4-6-10. Well, I knew that I needed to go brooklyn on the 1-2 in order to have a shot at this. So, I threw the next shot and would you beleive, the ball went right between the 1-6 and left all 5 pins up. Talk about embarassing!!
