new 300 and 800 rings are ugly
« on: December 30, 2009, 10:50:44 AM »
man the usbc awards are getting cheaper.
no more plaques, 299 or 298 rings and cheaper 300 and 800 rings while dues go up.
the old style 300 and 800 rings can be order from keepsake for 70 while these new ones only cost 40. so usbc is saving money between the 2 styles while getting them cheaper in bulk.

also with 1 300 and 800 ring per lifetime.

what do you guys think?

Inevitable.  More and more 300s, less and less members...something had to give.

300 rings should have been downgraded, there's just too many 300's today (although none of them are mine).  I think there should still be a nice ring, if not for an 800 maybe for 825+, 850+, or some other level below 900.  --  JohnP

This is NOT TRUE

Dues have NOT gone up as far as National is concerned.  It was up for vote last year and almost was voted in for a $5 increase but it barely failed.

It will doubtless be on the docket for a dues increase for next year.  But it needs to be voted in.  I have not seen an increase in National dues in over 5 years.  So based on simple inflation the dues should be increased.  But reasonably.

Now as for the rings.  They do look cheaper.  That's in my opinion.  I've seen a lot of them as I log them into the computer for presentation to the bowlers.  The ones that have any additional fees do look a lot better.  IMO, it is worth paying for some of the extras.  Unless of course you really don't care then just get the freebie.

It is not a once a lifetime award fro 300 or 800.  Plus that idea has been shelved due to the fact that USBC gets a discount for bulk rings.  If you take away that "bulk" part of the ordering process then Keepsake will not give the same price to USBC.  Therefore it was deemed NOT feasable to make the honor awards "once in a lifetime".  It was an idea, but it did not fly for financial reasons to USBC.

I just bowled my first 300 and 800 back in October, man that was a long time coming, and I just got my 800 ring, my 300 is on its way.  I got the Golden Siladium and upgrade to the Gold Inlane Stone on both of them with engraving on the side and both of them together came up to $220.  For me that was pretty reasonable and I happen to like how they came out.  You also have to remember that the company making them for USBC is the same company that pretty much makes all your High School and College class rings so there is some credibility to the company.

In my eyes, after 20 years of bowling and finally shoting my 300 and 800 (both the same night) I'm really happy with my reward.

Just my two cents.

I hope your ring turns out better than mine. I got the 300 in gold saladium with the gold stone and engraving on the side and it looks like crap. When they colored in the black color on one side they got the black stuff all over the gold and just left it there.. Very sloppy work by Keepsake. I am going to call them to see if I can return this ring so they can clean it up or replace it if needed.

The older rings are MUCH nicer. Everything has gone down since USBC took over.

That name can be removed by any of the jewelry repair places.. You can also have your name engraved in it's place if you want..

I would encourage you to do so.  If you think the work is inferior then return them with your complaints.

Maybe that gold plated siladium is so thinly plated that they didn't want to rub to hard to get that black filler out or they'd rub the plating off.
