I need names of colleges with bowling programs
« on: May 18, 2009, 04:44:00 AM »
Last night on a local sports segment, they featured a local 12 year old who shot 747 in league. (as an aside - he scored well, but his form and style needs a lot of work).
Anyway - the sportscaster said that the kid hopes to go to Wichita - "a school that actually has a bowling program".

I want to respond to this guy with a list of all the colleges and universities I can come up with that "actually have a bowling program".

I'll start with
San Jose State
Cal Berkeley
Fresno State
Chico State
UC Davis
U of Minnesota
Nebraska
Wichita
Moorhead

wichita state doesn't want you if you speak english ?  i guess justin hromek, patrick healey, jr., sean rash, chris barnes, rick steelsmith, lonnie waliczek, etc., all speak a language other than english. what a ridiculous statement to make.

three of wichita state's top three men are josh blanchard, will barnes, and john szczerbinski. all three of these sound like, "american" names----except maybe john szczerbinski. this is probably an eastern european name but i'll wager he is a citizen of this country.

on the ladies side the shockers three best players are melissa hurst, samantha linder, and sandra gongora. i saw the pictures of all these players at bowl.com and none of them look like foreigners or someone who spaeks english as a second language..........

The list Todder gave is probably the best.  Top 64 get into sectionals so that means they bowl some tournaments.  As for NC State, we went to 8 tournaments this season.  I averaged 204 for the season and who knows what team I woulda been on had I went to Wichita but I did do fine in singles. :-)  Depends on what the person is looking for.  If bowling only and not education then that narrows the field down.  I am not a fan of just going to a school for bowling.  I went to NC State because of their engineering program...the bowling team was dead when I got back here again but we finished top 30 this season and sent 3 bowlers to Intercollegiate Singles Championships the last 2 seasons.  Outside of Wichita and UCF, there's not many that can say that.
