new arsenal switching to storm
« on: February 15, 2013, 10:22:42 AM »
I currently throw hammer balls. Primarily a Taboo DP
Avg 210
 high revs
average speed
track close to fingers
I like to play coast to coast, and I want to switch to storm because I'm not to interested in the current hammer line.
I was thinking of going with an iq tour pearl as my first ball and balling down to a frantic bowling on ths. Any other suggestions?

A perfect Storm arsenal in my mind would be; Sync, Nano Pearl, IQ Tour Pearl, Crossroads, and Breeze. No need for Frantic. Weaker core version of Crossroads and because of that it isn't as versatile.

You would have the entire spectrum of conditions covered with that 5 ball arsenal.

I don't have to worry right now about dryer lanes and for now ill continue to throw a Taboo for my heavier shots so Im just looking for two balls one for medium heavy and one to ball down to. Will the iq pearl be real close to the Taboo Dp, and I should get a crossroad instead of the frantic.

I respectfully disagree with completebowler. I think the Frantic is one of the most versatile balls on the market right now. Mine is actually stronger than my Crossroad. Personally, I think you can cover just about everything other than the absolute extremes with just the DP Taboo and the Frantic. You may be able to get a little more separation by going DP Taboo, IQ Tour (Solid), Crossroad. The IQ Tour Pearl is a good ball as well, but that one can be very condition-specific unless you change the surface. If you're intent on adding an IQ Tour Pearl, I would put a Frantic above it. The Frantic is earlier and can handle more oil than the IQ Tour Pearl (at box finish).

The Deep Purple is a very heavy rolling ball and will not be anywhere close to the IQ Tour Pearl. I replaced mine with a Defiant Soul which is a bit more versatile and gets a bit more length than the Deep Purple and still has that great hit. I also found the crossroad to be much weaker that i thought it would be, it was strong of the dry but really needed to see friction. Id probably go IQ tour solid or Roto Beserk in the Medium Heavy position and Roto Wrecker/Frantic as a ball down....but that still leaves dry with no coverage. I am personally a huge fan of the Roto Line right now, I own the Soul and thrown the Beserk, both GREAT balls. The Disturbed looks mighty nice too....

I have to agree with Gene and also respectfully disagree with completebowler about the Frantic.  That ball has been surprisingly versatile for me and I have been able to use it on pretty much everything medium-light all the way to some medium-heavy patterns.  Definitely a great ball with great carry.

Now for a good Storm arsenal, I also want to say that their sister brand Roto Grip allows you to mix/match to get virtually anything you want.  Here is how I would go based on what you mention:

Heavy: Storm Sync
Med-Heavy: RG Disturbed (solid), RG Berserk (hybrid), iQ Tour (solid) or Marvel Pearl (pearl)
Medium: Storm Hy-Road (hybrid)
Medium-Light: Storm Frantic (hybrid), Storm Tropical Heat (pearl or solid), RG Wrecker (hybrid), RG Shatter (pearl)
Light: RG Scream (pearl), RG Shout (solid), Storm Tropical Breeze (pearl or hybrid)

Current Ball Arsenal
Heavy:
MOTIV Jackal Legacy
MOTIV Mythic Jackal

Med-Heavy:
MOTIV Trident Odyssey
MOTIV Forge Fire
MOTIV Covert Revolt

Medium:
MOTIV VIP ExJ Sigma
MOTIV Sigma Sting
MOTIV Pride Solid

Medium-Light
MOTIV Venom Shock
MOTIV Tribal Fire
