Not really an expert, but I AM a Storm "fanatic," for lack of a better word. The USA LE was essentially an El Nino Gold, which I believe was slightly more aggressive on the backends than the original El Nino. As far as replacements, what better to replace a Storm with than another Storm? The El Nino Gold was Accu-Tread solid, I believe. Monsoon is smoother and earlier, but I definitely think it's an improvement, and not a step away from a good replacement. Closer perhaps (of course not wanting to disagree with guys who do this for a living) would be an Atomic Charge. Its reaction shape reminds me more of the Gold than the Super does. I've had both balls, (currently throwing an Atomic, drilling another Super as soon as it arrives) and can definitely say that the Super is earlier and smoother. They both require a little more oil than the El Nino's, but you can play them ANYWHERE on the lanes on a fresh, normal league shot. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either ball, and although I love the Atomic, I have to give the nod to the Super. It hits noticeably harder, and I think it's a little more versatile. Does your son have at least medium to high ball speed? My first Super was stacked, with a flare increasing weight hole, and I'm not joking when I say it flares like you wouldn't believe. I could get the flare rings to migrate clear around the ball to track over the thumb on the right side of the finger holes. Both balls play in the oil much better than the track area or any dry boards, although they'll still definitely outshine most other balls wherever you choose to throw them.
