Tonight was Week 2 of the adult/youth doubles league I'm bowling on with my son, which I absolutely love

I've decided to bowl plastic only for the next 8 weeks, only because we have matching Ed, Edd & Eddy Viz-A-Balls and I promised him I'd use the ball during league play.

After shooting 483 the first week, my goal for the season is to average at least 170 with plastic, and tonight I started the first two games CLEAN!  197-229.  I couldn't believe it!

THEN... Mr. White Dot shows up at the lanes, which is something he never does.  He did NOT have a good day at work, and was very cranky and took it out on me.  ::grumble::  I had 9/ in the first frame of Game 3, and after listening to him rant, what was the shot in frame 2?  1-2-8-10.  The third frame, I'm so upset because he's upset, I whiffed a FIVE PIN  I ended the game with 133 and 559 for 3.

I was so sure I could throw a 600 with plastic and I was ready for it, and then Mr. White Dot came in and he was so mad, and I felt bad for him and I fell apart like a cheap suit.

I told him to STAY HOME next week

LuvThatWhiteDot: I had a similar experience that happened during a tournament earlier in the year. I had to bowl 6 games on a Sunday and had a really great set for doubles with my dad. When we moved over for singles it took me a few frames to realize I needed to switch balls but finished with a 190 game. At the beginning of game two I got a phone call from my wife, frantic that she couldn't find her car keys and thought she left it in my car....

After that exchange I threw 2 straight wash outs and was muttering left and right about why she couldn't have waited another 30 minutes to call me (I told her I would be done by 11am).... still managed to throw a 530 series, but felt it could have easily been a 600 without the distraction.

Bowling with a distraction is very difficult, especially if you are upset.  I remember on night this past year where I was very upset at another person.  I wassn't focusing at all and I whiffed a single pin, then I proceeded to get really peeved.  The resulting game was a whopping 147.  I relaxed and shot 225, 227 to finish the set but I understand your situation completely.

I have the same preshot routine for every shot, whether strike ball or spare shot.  Mr. White Dot in his day was a world champion artistic roller skater, and in every sport he plays in, has to be the very best or he quits faster than you can blink an eye.  He quit bowling because through lessons and coaching I got better than him.  He didn't like being beat, so he quit -- tough cookies, Pal

Having said that, whenever he's around when I'm bowling, he actually starts complaining when I make bad shots or whiff spares.  I haven't figured out the right trick to turn HIM off in my mind when I'm bowling.  

I think I should go re-read Par Bowling now
