filing a claim with Fedex
« on: February 24, 2005, 10:14:24 PM »
Is filing a claim with fedex a hard thing to do??  I purchased
2 balls from a seller on here and by no fault of his fedex screwed
up the delivery and I believe damaged the package and then failed to
deliver it back to the original sender.  This happened a while back
and the seller seems to be having a lot of difficulty getting everything
squared away to get MY money back.  Meanwhile I sit and wait while he
has gotten paid for the deal and is out nothing.

I by no means am bashing the seller.  He has done a lot of transactions on
here so I have no reason to fear that he is trying to shaft me.  I am just wondering if others have had the same kind of problems dealing with claims from the shipping company.

Any info anyone can provide would be appreciated.

Jac

I have had nothing but problems trying to file a fed ex claim. They told me the sender needed to file a claim and that I could not do so as the receiver of the package.

good luck..

Everyone needs to play it safe and ship UPS like the majority of people on this site does. You hardley ever hear a complaint about UPS, but you will about Fed-Ex from time to time.

I had nothing but problems with UPS, thats why I changed. They lost 1 ball completely and then they delivered an empty box with no ball inside on the very next delivery..

Not to mention fed ex ground is about $3-$5 bucks cheaper per ball..

This past year I shipped out and received probably about 75 or so balls that where shipped using fed ex and I had 2 problems.. Thats it..

The claim process with UPS ground is a pain in the butt, just like Fed ex..

Its fed ex ground for me..

I have had only one minor mishap with Fedex when the person accepting my packages applied the same bar code to both packages.  You have a lot more pull with Fedex when you have an account.  Setting up an account is free and will eliminate the hassle associated with filing a claim.  Not much help for this situation but very helpful for the future.

As a retired transportation professional for a major bicycle supplier it has been my experience that FedEx has many more problems than UPS.  The home office negotiated a new contract with FedEx based on cost alone and the problems with small shipments increased significantly.  Claims was one of the biggest problems as FedEx comes up with every known excuse for not paying them or paying them at a reduced rate even for a company spending over a million dollars a year with them.  This will give you an idea as to how they treat someone making a few shipments a year!  An acceptable claim ratio for a carrier is .1%, or one claim per thousand shipments.  Two in 75 is not good.

I disagree with your statement above, to me 2 in 75 is great compared to the constant problems I was having with UPS. To eash is own really, I am using fed ex ground now for everything. If people like UPS better, go for it..

BrunsJoe,

Isn't that frusrating.. I love how you call in to UPS customer service and tell them what the problem is and they say oh someone from the local hub will call you back in 12 hours, then 24 hours later, you have received no call so you call the 1-800 number again and have to start the whole story over again because nothing you talked about the day before is even recorded on file..

I have had that happen numerous times with UPS.. Very poor customer service..

jac,

first question - did you pay via paypal?
Because if you did, you might be able to file a claim with them as well.

Second - do you know for sure the status of the claim? Not to say the shipper is cheating you or anything, BUT - fed-ex is usually pretty quick to make a decision. Have they picked up the damaged package from you?

OTBTbowler, that is exactly my point.
