New Fangled Ball Baking...?

Reading Charlest's posts & not wanting to Hi-jack, ;) got me thinking of all the ways some of you have tried getting the oil out your bowling balls.  ???

I saw some used their oven, dish washer (which I've done), ball baths (also have done, not a fan of), trunk of the car in the hot sun  :-\... & Food dehydrators... ??? 

That last one got me wondering... Has anyone tried their "smoker"?  Not a charcoal smoker  ::), but an electric one... Bradley or Master Built...?  Mine could probably fit 2 at a time.  It's digital, has a timer, so I could just set it & forget it.

This could be fun... Any other ideas?

Ha, ha ha! Fun...but dangerous! Your smoker????? Good luck with that one!

My buddy once set his best bowling ball at the time, on the hearth of his fireplace which actually was not lit.......just had smoldering embers in it. Walked away from it to go get something to eat out of the kitchen. 15 minutes later, he said he smelled chemicals in the air. Came back to find his ball literally in flames, with the oil just gushing out of it!!! I wish I could have been there to take a picture!  ;D

And it was his favorite ball too! ;D

Yeah, I could see that if the oil was actually sitting on the surface of the ball... but the oil already absorbed by the cover?

Tried using a turkey deep fryer, you know the ones with the propane tank.  substituted oil with water, had a hanger custom made to hold the ball.  set the temp. and let it go.  worked pretty well, the oil came out and went into the water. kinda works like a steam bath.

A smoker?  You could go into competition with Storm on scenting bowling balls.  New hickory smoked ball or Mesquite.  Even better, you could have some manly scented bowling balls instead of the fruity ones - Steak, BarBQue Ribs, etc.  :)

I used to use the hot water method, but results were always "up in the air". I never knew for sure what came out, if anything.

Since then, I started using a material to absorb the lane oil. I put a sanded ball into the material for 24 - 48 hours. I used 2 substances to absorb and draw the oil out of the ball. Once was specific to bowling called Columbia CPR.

I've done balls with both and the performance of the balls processed was undoubted.

Both these substances do work, but they're messy, potentially very dangerous (health-wise) and time consuming. The NuBall process is so much easier and much less time and effort.

Quite some time ago, I collected the liquid that came out of a Raging Inferno upon heating in my rejuvenator.  Although it felt oily, it was definitly not lane oil.  Here is the very old post...

My best results have been with the hot water methoed and with using my home oven. Using the preheat feature at 130 I just leave it for a few hours then see how it has done. Never had any issues.

It isn't needed often so it isn't expensive to use. I don't like using my gas oven for that too often since that would start to add up.

Can you imagine, if instead of smelling like Jasmine or Vanilla beans, like Storm balls do, balls smelled like BBQ ribs and smoked Pork Butts??

The kitty litter might work, but you would need some heat from the sun or some other source to get the ball warm enough to sweat.  Never tried it myself.  Might this summer.

I heard of putting your ball(s) in a black trash bag and leaving it in the sun for 20-30 minutes. I guess that would keep an even heat going through, but I think it might get a little too hot to do that here in Texas haha
