interchangeable tumbs v.s. molds

Subject say's it all. Which method do you guy's prefer and why. I have had a mold made and i really like it. Thought about going that route other than interchangeable.

IMO the only advantage of the mold is the bevel. Its easy to duplicate size and shape, but the bevel is very difficult to reproduce.

How can you reproduce size and shape unless you own a real expensive jig and mill that will cut ovals? With Exactacator I can make a mold of my thumb hole and reproduce it exactly the same over and over again.

That's what I am thinking notso. I have a very flat and oval thumb. Getting two the same is quite a chore for me. The one slug that I have made from my best fitting ball is great. My driller was nice enough to give me the mold since i have plug at home. The only thing I have to find now is the cylinder you put the mold in.

The only reason I think an interchangable thumb would help is if your thumb swells up due to the environment(that could be whatever makes your thumb swell up).  Of course, if you are like some people who need very little adjustment then that advantage is gone.

For those who need to constantly adjust tape thanks to a thumb that changes sizes repeatedly throughout the night, an interchangeable thumb lets you switch from ball to ball without having to adjust a ton of tape.  That's a huge advantage in that situation.

I haven't checked Buddies lately, but they used to sell the 1 1/4 cylinder for molds. Something like $10 and freight.

Personally I utilize molds.  I went to them because I got sick of having to tinker with my bevel everytime I drilled a new ball.  I will admit that while the mold gets the shape correct there will always be slight variation from casting to casting.  

If I were to start from scratch I probably would go with the Vise-It system.  But since I can't...I really don't want to have to change over all of my equipment to them and deal with the change in static weights, etc.

However, with both systems you can still utilize a thumb mold by drilling a slug for the mold and glue it in.  I also recall one of the systems have a sleeve for accepting 1-1/4 molds also.

thats why i have ITs. if im at a tournament with 7 or 8 balls and i want to throw the fill shot with another ball, chances are the thumb hole is not going to fit so the IT for me is a much better choice to save time and to make sure everything feels right without being rushed.
