New Heavy Oil Ball
« on: July 06, 2004, 09:42:13 AM »
Alright guys, I need a new heavy oil ball, but not from storm (becuase the fear factor died and it was a horrible ball in general) . Balls I am interested in are these:

Mayhem
Ultimate Inferno
Triumph TNT
Primal Instinct
Alter Ego

If there are any balls that you think are better, then I am open to suggestions! Just look in my profile for stats.

Thanks!

Track Animal. It is by far the best oil ball I have owned. Outhooked my Fear Factor by atleast 6 boards on oil.

Out of the balls you listed I would go with the Mayhem or the Alter Ego. Between the 2 The Mayhem would be the better choice....but for the dollar the Alter Ego is awesome.

Above all though.....get an animal, have it drilled to hook, take the surface down to about 800....and oil will not be a problem.

Hammer Bowler, I have heard not so good things about the warp zone from pro shops in my area, but I completely forgot about the attack, but I don't know how easy it would be to get.

Excalibur:I completely forgot about the animal! I have heard that is a great ball!

Why not a Triple Xtreme?

I would go with the Ultimate Inferno...

I love mine when i find enough oil, Great roll and carry.
Ball really recovers will in oil but when you find the dry boards watch out
it's gone.

The ultimate inferno seems to work well for me with a 120 drilling.

Well I have had the Animal and Triumph TNT and the tnt for me is a better ball for heavy oil.. Oh yea, the Killer Instinct Sanded is also a great heavy oil ball, but I would give the TNT a shot and see what happens..

or wait a bit for the intense inferno...

for a columbia ball, surely the throttle-on would be a better choice than the alter ego?  Their website claims more hook in oil AND backend for the throttle-on.

Maelstrom Zero -- I don't have much call for heavy oil balls, so haven't drilled many of them.  The one that I have drilled that worked very well on oil for a couple of customers is the Lane 1 Super Carbide Bomb.  But it is very condition specific, if you don't see heavy oil don't buy it - it will burn out on anything else.  And yes, it's expensive.  --  JohnP

I agree. The super carbide bomb is a FANTASTIC oil ball. It'll hook lots of boards when an Ultimate inferno will hook a few.
HOWEVER - UNLESS YOU KNOW THAT YOUR SHOT IS EXTREMELY HEAVY OIL, don't bother. Because on anything less than REALLY HEAVY oil, this ball will burn out. And that's a lot of $$ for something that burns out.

I got it because I bowl a lot of tournaments across a large geographical area. What I consider oily in my area is considered dry a couple of hundred miles north of here. So - if you are absolutely sure, the SCB is a great choice. If you're not positive, or you're talking about a "heavy oil" league shot, the Ultimate Inferno would be a better choice.
