New Honor Score
« on: November 27, 2012, 08:35:06 AM »
There are a lot of leagues around here that have gone to a 4 game format.

Should there be an honor score for a 4 game series?

Say if you shoot 1050+?

You couldn't get both a 800 series and and 4 game series score on the same night.

It's a valid question, but I doubt you'll ever see it happen. If anything, USBC wants to cut back on the number of awards given out for house shot honor scores, and I can't say I blame them. Don't get me wrong, shooting the type of numbers you referenced is certainly a great accomplishment no matter the conditions. Still, the last thing that a company that's losing membership - and membership revenue - wants to do is come up with a new way to spend money.

I think the ABC used to keep that record. We have a lefty here in NJ who used to/does hold the record with an 1198. His name is Thomas (Tom) Jordan.

Charlest - I believe that is still the record. Shot in 1989 I believe.

I agree in that I don't believe they want to start new award primarily for cost reason. But the 4 game set seems to be a more common occurrence in leagues.

I can see maybe 1100 being recognized or something like that. But have a plaque for it as the free award and the ring as a purchaseable award.

What leagues do you see going to a 4 game format? Heck, you can barely get people to commit to 3 games a week!?!

My Sunday league is a 4 game set.  We are a doubles league and have 18 teams this half.  Had 26 teams end of last year.  We were down to 12 two years ago but the money is good.  I personally love the 4 game set.  Only thing that sucks is when you shoot 800 games 2,3,4 and it doesn't mean dittly!

Yes Tom shot his record 1198 4 game set in 1989 firing games of 300-299-300-299, amazing. He runs the proshop at Bowler City lanes in NJ. Nice guy and one tough opponent.

We have several 3 person team leagues in town that bowl 4 games.

Probably the best scratch league in town is a 3 person team 4 game format. Here is a link to their league standings.

Most of the time I see 4 game leagues only during the summer.

Scott - If you notice have of the subs listed don't have any games this season. They must keep subs from previous years active on the list.

I don't believe they allow any pre/post bowling but unlimited substitutes to constitute a legal lineup. But it shows how tough it is anymore to get even 3 people to commit to a league schedule.
