I bowl two leagues at a new location for both 1st and 2nd shift leagues. With the current balls in my bag, which are the lower end of my tiny collection of balls I own (6 balls total, bring 3), I find myself further inside to what I've been used to. It was over a decade ago did I play inside the 3rd arrow to start, to passed the 4th arrow. or sliding close or in front of the left gutter.
I can get to the pocket with all my equipment (including my spare), but I have a hard time carrying playing up the boards to my normal area the track or just inside it. These several weeks I've been late with transition and find myself making adjustments every other frame. Where as, at the other house, I barely even moved once I'm lined up. Rarely do I move more than 3 boards at the AMF house I used to bowl.
I'll work on ball surfaces to get me to play straighter, but if the house is giving me better carry percentage playing away from the pocket, away from my "A" game, I accept the challenge. My AT and AR are what kills me on lighter to drier conditions. The most "aggressive ball" I have is the Hyroad which I rarely use for leagues like this. But at other houses with longer and more volume, it's my favorite ball - cheater ball.
If there's any tips anyone can share playing away from the pocket, it'll be greatly appreciated. I got programed to play straighter keeping the ball in front of me longer the last 10 years. got to change that mindset...Also, I struggle most in my second shift league. The bowlers before us last night use mostly aggressive balls. One guy had a dull sanded down NANO and I over heard him say, "it's too oily out there." but it wasn't really.....Anyway, have a good friday and weekend folks...
