Your spot preference?
« on: July 02, 2004, 08:23:11 PM »
What position do you like to be on your team?  Would you rather get things going and be lead, just "be there" in the middle, or be the anchor?

I actually sign up to be anchor on my team....I'm the only one who, if not can just handle pressure, I actually need to have some to do well.  I usually get a turkey during the 9th or 10th frame if I need to get a certain score to maintain average on a bad night, or if our team is down, I'll pull out the big shots late in the game.

So, what about you?

On a four man team, any spot is fine with me but I usually bowl anchor. On a five man team I seem to have a preference for anchor but can bowl any spot outside of third. I've had phobias since college as that's where I spent most of my college days, even when I was averaging 215 and the high average on the team...

I like leadoff best.  I want to be the first one to strike and set the tone for the whole frame.

On Thursday I bowl third, before anchor, and I like it.  I like helping to set her up for a good finish.

Anchor... Always... They leave me all the pressure... Sometimes whe need a triple or double in the last and I HAVE TO DO IT... (Lots of times I do it... )

But, its lots of pressure

I've bowled anchor while subbing and was the hero of the night when we won the 2nd game by a single pin.  I think the pressure was good for me.  I do prefer being the bowler right before the anchor though.  It's nice giving your anchorman a little breathing room in the 10th.  There's a little pressure to do well, but it's not as critical as being anchor itself.

I prefer being anchor since the pressure doesn't bother me, but I never shot an honor score as anchor yet.  We were in a 3 man team league when I shot my 800 and I was lead off that night.  I was 3rd in a 5 man team when I shot 300, and 1st when I had the 299.  297...I was 2nd.  Overall, I would say I'm most consistent as an anchor.  I like to be the one that's up with a game on the line rather than trust someone else to come through.  Unfortunately, being anchor is a bit of a struggle sometimes seeing as a good share of people that I wind up bowling with think of how I'm just a kid compared to them and I wouldn't be able to handle pressure.  In the end, a good share of the time they'll let me anchor, but overall, I'll bowl anywhere in a line up.

Anchor or leadoff. Lately I've bowled leadoff and I really enjoy it there.

I'm the spark plug, so I always lead off.

The only time I anchor is when I'm the only decent bowler on the team, which can happen in a just-for-fun league.
