Whatever it still comes down to consistency.  Hell some nights the lanes are fried and I only use my plastic spareball.  I still shoot the same scores.  Sure, on a oiler shot my plastic ball won't move like my new equipment.  Though, i still cant get it to work if i really wanted too ( i have hand).  As most of you know, the game is 90% mental and the lanes and equipment can't help with that.  I commend this guy for shooting 900.  Hell after the front 7, trying to keep your mind right is hard. I started on plastic, went to urethane, then resin reactive.  Are the lanes easier? Who knows, there was probably cake houses back then.  Are the balls better?  Yes, but then they are condition specific, different drillings, and sometimes a little unstable.

Everything evolves and if you think that 60 yrs down the road bowlers would get worse, then youre probably an idiot.

While I do have my own opinions about these things, all I want to do here is congratulate Matt on a great series. You are one of a mere few to have achieved this score and deserve your recognition.

 So, CONGRATULATIONS MATT.

and then not at all until about 10 to 12 years later.

With the Yellow Easy to hit the pocket....every week.  Carry seemed to be less than today.

Ehem.... Carry was a LOT less then, you could hit the pocket and still leave the 5 and 7.

Nearly shot a perfect 501 but needed two extra pins.  But that was 4-5 hours of practice a day, 6 days a week, cracking the bullseye ring on two boards.  One was custom made and all triples and doubles were 4mm thinner.  But the tech in darts isn't as influencial as the ball tech is today.

However, congrats to the 900 series shooter.

Lets just have some old school leagues so we all have our own preferences and have fun!!

They are good but there are good ones and not so good ones.

As to the perfect set for the given amount of score available yep...great 900 is it under the current rules!

As to what I think they should do for high scoring conditions.  I like the endless games I see on the PBA tour once in a while.  Maybe perfection could become 2698.  Bowl till you stop striking.  But switch to the next game after every 900!

Many more are capable of throwing them and it will happen that more and more every year ARE going to be shot!

REgards,

PS As to the 70s and pre Urethane days.  I bowled for about a year as a little kid with rubber balls and for about a year with a yellow dot before I started again and in reactive times.  I don't remember ANY trouble finding the pocket with the previous types of balls.

By the way LL, I played left and right then, and the left side definitely had and advantages then.. Heh heh.
Just yanking a bit... best of the season to you.
