Midnight Vibe, Rising Star, or Damage
« on: May 13, 2011, 01:51:25 AM »
I'm having the third game blues. I had it the last few weeks of league and experienced it a couple of weeks ago in a tournament. I wonder if you guys can give me your opinion. I like control pieces, but I need something to get through the front part of the lane and still have pop on the back end. I've narrowed it down to the Rising Star, Midnight vibe and the Damage by Brunswick. Thanks

Are your 3rd game blues because the lanes have gotten fried?  I run into this problem at our local house, and I am thinking about a Midnight Vibe to see if that will help.  Lots of people seem to like it.  Never looked at the Damage, but will have to check it out.

Thanks guys, I have been looking at video's of the damage. I was concerned about it going a little to long because of the high rg. I need a ball like this because of fried lanes. I was thinking about the Rising star because it is a hybrid and should have more control in the cover.

I have the Midnight Vibe, and had a lot of success changing to it from my Mission 1.0 late in the second game. gets through the heads easily, and has a nice little pop on the backend, and carries well. Hope this helps!

The Rising Star is a great choice and love using it when the lanes burn out.  I find this ball gives me the backend and is clean through the heads like a pearl, but read the mids similar to a solid, giving more of a controlled arc motion.  The reaction is consistant and predictable, ball carries well, and plays well both on the outside and inside lines.  It's my go to ball for what you're describing.  My opinion: easily one of the best medium-light condition balls available and definitely worth considering.

Seems like I chose the right 3 bowling balls. The Rising Star sounds good. I wouldn't have to figure out what drill to put on it, I can go with my standard pin up mass bias strong. Anymore suggestions? Thanks

You're definitely in the ballpark with the choices you made.  I know a lot of people throw the Vibe and it does a good job on the burn.  I haven't seen anyone throw the Damage yet, so I really can't give a yes or no on recommending it.

The Vibe is a little different than the Rising Star in that it has a full pearl cover compared to the hybrid.
My experience with the Rising Star is that even though my ball technically it has a skid/flip drill on it, it does pick up a touch more midlane since it has the hybrid cover.  However, it is very clean in the front yet stores the backend energy like a pearl.  It's a unique ball motion and  it gives the best of both worlds.   The nice thing about hybrids is that they wont be as jumpy as a full pearl cover on the burn most times, which can happen depending how torched the lanes are.

One ball you may not have thought of is the Track 300C.  I saw someone throw it Saturday night for the first time and it was a great control piece on the burn.  The reaction and carry were really good.

Any of the choices you mentioned I think would really be a good fit in your arsenal.

Thanks a lot for the replies. My ball driller sent me a message on this site saying he had a Rising Star with 3 games on it (it was his) in good condition. The choice is made. I still might go with a pin down damage for the burn though.

Thanks again for all the replies.

Here's another vote for the Rising Star.  I picked up a used RS that was in great shape and it is a very underrated ball that is really versatile and should work well on THS conditions.  It reads the mid-lane and has a strong backend motion that retains energy all the way through the pindeck.
