Selling on ebay.......
« on: March 09, 2005, 09:51:14 AM »
I am done with selling stuff on ebay.  I sold a bag, Storm that was part of a 4 ball bag, which was damamged on a airplane trip.  This part was still usable, and the little legs that are on it, are damamged.  I never saw it, and never noiced it with my stuff in it.  The guy says "I cannot use this bag, it will not support 32 pounds of equipment."  He paid $15.50 for the bag, and I dont remember for shipping.

These legs would fit in the grooves if it was attached to the bottom part of a 4 ball bag, but when I was using it, it never fell or wobled*.

I told him I would buy the bag back if he felt it was unable to carry bowling balls in it in full.

I also hated the way one guy was upset because he wanted the bag by a Thursday, which I had plans to ship it on Tuesday because of my work schedule, and was threating me to put neg. feedback if he didnt get it in time.

Another guy was upset because I shipped it DHL and claimed that it was going to take 8 days to get his ball.  Ended up taken it 3 days to get there.

I feel your pain.. I had an offer for a Track Crash...it is in my store for $80.00...this guy offered $50.00 plus I PAY shipping...Sure we all want to get the best deal we can, but some of the folks feel we, as sellers, have made millions and need to share the wealth with them. I understand what you have gone through.

Sometimes I just want to sell out and never get back into it, other times, when a "nice" customer thanks me for helping him/her pick a ball...that makes all the "crap" worth the effort.

my 2 cents are up

Some buyers on EBay feel as if the seller owes them something more than the item won.

When I sell/auction stuff I take pictures from all angles, give the most detailed description possible and state the type of shipping I am using.  If it's not good enough for the buyer then they can look elsewhere.

I have had a couple , lately, state " I can buy this at **&&**&& online for XXXX if you can beat that price I'll but it from you.

My answer, unless my "BIN" price is lower, is ..well, I guess you need to go to (**(&&^&* online and buy it, then.  And, shipping...I have a shipping calculator on each page, I still get questions...how much for shipping ?..*sigh* oh well, such is the life, I guess.

The thing that gets me is sellers listing balls and bags for set prices that are way more than they are selling for on other on going and completed auctions. Do they think buyers are stupid and don't check completed auctions for prices?

When 3 ball rollers are selling for $65-$75 plus shipping, why post a 2 ball roller for $80 plus ship?? All they are doing is wasting money on listing fees. No one is going to pay those higher prices for balls and bags that can be bought for much less in no reserve auctions.. It makes no sense to me..

If they only made a ball that would carry that da_n 7 pin (and I am right handed!!)

The guy emails me back, and says thats he is going to report this to the ebay head hanchos and let them know how bad shape this bag is in.  I sent him the money to get the bag Here is what he put after I didnt understand why he was going to charge me $35.50.

Shane,
Here is the deal.  If you expect me to lose on this, I will go ahead and
report this to ebay.  They will
turn it over to their fraud division, and they will turn it over to the
proper authorities.  You stated
clearly in your item description ,there is nothing wrong with this bag, and
that it is in excellent
condition.  Not only are the legs broken on the bag, there are holes where
the legs are.  In other
words, the material or fabric is ripped.  I would not call this bag in
excellent condition.  Also, I will
not hesitate to leave a negative feedback on your account.  Let me know.
Again, I am not the
one who is going to lose on this.

Tony

I know as a matter of fact that the bag is not torn up.  The legs might be bent, I'll have to see it when it comes back to me, but I've used this bag and never had any problems with it.  Just trying to work things out and he has to get all bunched up in his panties....am I wrong?

I know what you mean.  There's one seller offering NIB Lane#1 Uraniums Solids for $299 plus shipping.

I emailed him and asked why he is charging $100 over reputable online vendors like bowlersparadise.com and tried to snow me by saying the balls were pro editions.  LOL

Well, I guess it depends on your item description and if the buyer paid via PayPal.

PayPal buyer protection is here: http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/policy_pbp-outside

Read section 4 and see if it pertains to you.  It looks like if you listed the item as "in used condition" or "as-is" then that is the best way to prevent his claim.

If you listed it as "excellent" condition and it is clearly damaged (whether it was damaged when it left your hands or not, if its damaged when he gets it that is all that matters), then yes, you are responsible for refunding his money - I don't know if that includes the shipping you charged, but he also has to pay shipping to return the item to you.

Its tough - I always try to provide as many pictures as possible.  I know ebay only gives you 2 for free, but I always try to link to some other pictures if possible.

Those are the chances you take with ebay, both buying and selling.  I always try to put myself in the other persons shoes - how would you feel if you bought something that was described as "excellent" and got something that was damaged and you considered it unusable?  No matter what you paid for it, would you just chalk it up as a bad deal and go on, or would you want your money back?

Not saying either one is right or wrong, just trying to provide a different perspective.

q- I totally understand what you are saying.  I understand that I might of made a mistake here.  This guy is like giving me no chance to make up for my mistakes.  He's going right to the threats.  If people are going to be like this, then I wont sell on ebay.

Try selling on here too... I've had people tell me that they will help pay for shipping and nothing more on balls in good condition! Its like do you people realize the cover looks brand new and I just paid 120 for this ball, and you want it for 20 shipped???

I guess the thing that really upsets me the most is that the bag is very usable, not completely worn down to nothing.  He makes it sound its unusable.  I guess you just roll with the punches.

Some people want it all and don't want to pay for it. I have not had but one transaction go bad, the ball cracked during drilling and the guy wanted to know what I could do for him. I got the ball back and refunded his money, he was happy and I got a new ball from Ebonite, so I was happy.
Bags...I'd hate to try to sell a used bag.  Centers don't take this wrong..I'm using you as an example....You say excellent....me as a "picky" buyer...gee,,,i see two specks of dirt...a thread sticking out over here and a small scuff on the wheel..gee to me this is "unusable" and I want my money back...your dog...a new car..or I'll turn it over to ebay !!

That's the attitude of SOME on ebay and I'm sure in here as well, that's just a customer wanting the world and not willing to pay more than 3 cents for it.
I don't think you were wrong in this at all, as long as the bag was in good condition...it's as ebay says in a lot of "buyer section"...buyer beware..

my 2 cents were up a long time ago

A friend of mine is building a site for bowling stuff only.  Bowlingballauctions.com  Should be up in the next week or so.

I hope it goes over pretty well, I would like an alternative to Ebay also.

My favorite is this jerk, Luxorbowling.  I bought a ball from him.  Paid within a few hours of the end of auction.  That's all he should be worried about.  He didn't ship my ball for a few days.  Not really a big deal.  But, I know it doesn't take 12 days from New Jersey to Houston.  He waited until I posted his feedback, which was still a positive, but my comment was that he shipped slow.  He gave me a negative.  I paid him fast, that should be his only worry.  Then he emailed me privately, cussing at me, threatening me, all this garbage.  He's gonna get me banned from Ebay, whatever.  I told his old butt what to do with his comments and such.

Centers, some people are just pricks.  All you can do is refund his money plus shipping back to you and move on.  If he insists on threats and stuff, don't worry about it.  You've done the best you can do, and sometimes there will never be enough you can do for certain individuals.
