New span and pitches, still need tweaking
« on: August 21, 2012, 02:07:23 PM »
I recently discovered that my span was too long.  Ended up being 1/2" too long!  Probably explains my hand and forearm pain!  Now I am 4 7/16" middle 4 1/2" ring.  My thumb pitches were changed as well from 1/8" in to 1/8" out and the reverse was left at 3/8".  The span feels a whole lot more comfortable, but I still am gripping due to feeling like I am dropping the ball.  Also now I experience some pain on the right side of my thumb (side closest to finger).  Possibly due to the pitch change or does the reverse need tweaking?

I would consider looking at your reverse in your thumb.....chances are if you were able to hold onto the ball that way 1/2in longer and the same reverse you will need to subtract some reverse to get the feeling your looking for. Also take a look at what your finger pitches are now.....if there is reverse/away pitches it could also contribute to the feeling your having of dropping the ball.....I would try chasing your thumb pitch forward an 1/8in at a time until you get the desired feel.

My fingers are at 0.  Could the pitch out be causing the pain on the inside thumb?

The pain is more than likely coming from you sqeezing the ball.Chase the pitch forward and make sure you have the right amount of bevel....not to much or too little and you should be fine.
