Bowled on a sport shot tonight...
« on: December 27, 2006, 11:51:15 AM »
averaged 175 on it, what a delight it was to be challenged to make shots.

flat flat flat pattern, close to zero friction area the first 45 feet gutter to gutter.

tryed to play cute with it first game, not knowing what it was.
played up about 12, skid skid skid, weak light hit.
played inside tight, inconsistent carry but seemed to have the most friction for some reason.

first game, 167

second game, i went Norm Duke and shot from the corner, frozen rope to the pocket, carry was ok, probably 4 boards of backend movement.
high flush carried well, 183, even with a pocket 7-10.

third game, backends loosened up a bit, still shot frozen rope. missed an idiotic spare after a dead nuts flush pocket shot leaving a stone 9 pin, ditched it, got to the line early.
finished with a 169, left a 4-6-7-10 middle of the game after trying to migrate back in out of curiosity.
it was tough keeping speed up hoping for 10 pin carry off the edge, so i figured why not try it, and i paid big time.

overall, i think i did ok walking in expecting a house shot and getting a sport shot, adjusting, making the most of it and making most of my spares.

any other way to play this pattern consistently besides a norm duke frozen rope over 1st arrow to the pocket off the corner?

Thanks.

Eric

For a flat pattern.. play your A game.

In your A game you should be able to hit your mark the most and have the most consistant roll/speed and everything.

Now, if your the type of person that playes 4th arrow regularly.. well then good luck on any sport shot.. but if you play a small swing, something like 12 (arrows) to 7 (breakpoint).. you should do decent.

This is one mistake I made in my SS league over the summer.. I tried to do something I was comfortable with.. and I averages a whopping 172 for 10 weeks.. when I know I could have done better.

Good luck if you get on that kind of shot again.. it ain't fun!

Wassup Chris.. I'm not knocking U or anything, but U're contradicting Urself..

"Play your A game" vs "This is one mistake I made in my SS league over the summer.. I tried to do something I was comfortable with.. and I averages a whopping 172 for 10 weeks"

On a flat pattern, play your A game? Not if U want to win.. Not on any pattern..

Quote from Major Mika "Of course, you play the pattern for the first game and then you play the field, that's the same all over the world".

On a flat pattern U set up the lane and/or play the lanes according to the bowlers U follow.. Look at the US Open these last few years.. Super flat pattern.. 9 out of 10 play where? Deep inside, just turning the corner.. That last 1 who doesn't play there..? Probably doesn't make the cut..
But it's still all depending on the level of the bowlers in that league.. If they want the flat pattern to open up, they will know WHERE to play them..

A Sport Pattern is only really difficult until the pattern is blown open.. But it will only open up if people know how to bowl on it to begin with.. This is what every single American, that i have met or bowled with, has told me when talking bout Sport Patterns.. Sean Rash, Andrew Cain, David Haynes, Bill Hofman, Michael Fagan, Voss, Machuga.. Even Chris Barnes.. Like i said we don't have Sport Leagues here, but i've put down lots of difficult patterns, including Sport Patterns.. And bowled a lot of tournaments internationally.. And it's true, that if U understand the lanegraphs and everything, and U know how to read a ballreaction, U will know where to start.. Length, volume, topography and so on, will dictate where to start on a pattern.. No matter how difficult it's supposed to be.. If people are capable of "grinding out" a game or 2.. The lanes will eventually open up to high/higher scores..

Again not knocking.. I'm in favour of tougher patterns.. I wish i was better on them.. Lol.. Just trying to help the brother out..

Peace
