Horrible Night
« on: June 28, 2013, 02:15:30 PM »
WELL.. i have not been bowling Long about 5 months league avg is 165 i know its low but im working on it. but was wondering if everyone has a night that just sucks?
ball would not carry. i tried slowing it down and moving boards i just could not find the pocket, and in the middle of the second game it became a mental screw up. lost alot of pins on my avg. But the Next night i bowl Youth adult with my Niece and carry around a 163 avg on that league and shot 236 221 199 which was bitter sweet.
its just frustrating!

There are nights where that will happen.  I average between 190-205 in most places, and there was 1 night where I actually shot a 107 during my Wednesday night league this past season.  I could not get lined up, couldn't shoot spares for anything, and got frustrated.

The rest of the night in games 2 and 3 were much better.  Those days will happen to everyone at some point.

Nobody is ever perfect every night on end. Especially when you're trying to build up your average. The best thing to do, if you're having a bad night, just put some music on or something and relax. Just enjoy the company and stop thinking about the bowling.

If you're in a tournament and this is happening....Well...You have to step back and go to the restroom or something. Can't get flustered and stay there, or else you're going to pay for it.

Yeah just had one of those days today actually. It was a combination of me and the lanes, very flat  and long with zero forgiveness left or right. Finally just started throwing and it got a bit better but not great.

Oh yeah! Last night my avg 211 and I shoot 500! Wow!  Pocket hits 10 out of 11 shots and left a 5, two 9's, 8-10 split, 7-10 split, solid 8 for a 166 game! Some nights the bowling gods are out for you.

Some of you are pretty lucky. Almost all of my series in recent years have been lousy and I was never a great player even when I was younger. At least when your average is pretty low a bad series doesn't seem all that bad. lol

I am sorry anyone that actually hits the "pocket" does not leave a 5, 8-10, and most of the time even 7-10s. Just because you hit the 1-3 or 1-2 does not mean  you hit the "pocket". If we use that logic then you hit the pocket when you leave a 2, 4, 8, 10.

Dude I shot 655 last week , and I shot 500 this week ... But on top of a guy falling onto one lane on our pair the house decided to "try" a different shot and not tell anyone so we only had 3 people shoot over 600 out of 20+ teams ...thats frustrating

Since when does hitting the pocket guarantee a strike.  It is hilarious watching the major tantrums from the "children" in my leagues when they hit the pocket and don't carry.  Excuse me, but who hits the pocket more often than the PBA players, and last time I checked, no one is averaging 300 on tour :D

Ah! Those Horrible Nights. We all want to forget them, but they are part of every bowler's life. What usually happens is thinking you have the solution to problem, only to find that every adjustment has only made things worse.

The main question is: How do you react?

You are going to have good nights and bad nights. And your statement is so true. When everyone is bowling well, its a great time, you all stay loose and relaxed (A big plus in bowling).

It is amazing how light the ball feels when you are going well. Of course, it feels like a ton when you are having one of those nights.

I agree with Tripcee. When you struggle in league competition, get away briefly from your teammates. Sit down and clear your thoughts. Try to get back to basics which for me is slowing my feet and keeping my bowling elbow behind the ball.
