Good, cheap Knee brace for bowling
« on: December 03, 2008, 10:51:17 PM »
Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea where I can get a good and inexpensive knee brace for my slide leg as I pulled a muscle in my knee last week and just want to protect it.  Any suggestions will help.

I use this brace. It's more comfortale than neoprene and less bulky.

Ok first not to be picky but there are no muscles in the knee.  The knee is a joint.  There is bone, ligaments and cartlidge but no muscles.  You may have pulled a leg muscle or sprained a ligament in the knee.  Where on the knee does it hurt?  right side, left side, front, back?  All of these are basic questions that need to be known in order to guess what you have done.  There is a lot that goes into selecting a knee brace depending on what is wrong.  Depending on what you did a knee brace may not be the answer and may be a waste of money.

Phoneman, it hurts a little on my back and right side of my knee if that helps. Mostly when I think I hurt it, the pain was mostly on the back side, I think I hyperextended my knee.  Its a little tender today from bowling last night, but there are no obvious signs of swelling or bruising if that helps.

That sounds like a sprain of the MCL.  I would go with one of the neoprene braces you probably dont need the stabilizer braces on the sides.  Ice and heat therapy will be your best treatment.  If it still hurts after a day or 2 or the next time you bowl dont play around and go see a Dr.  Once the knee gets damaged it is never the same again.

Ice for 20 minutes for the first "day".  I usally do this for about an hour or 2 when I get home from the center.  Then Heat for 20 minutes on 20 off over the next 2 "days".  Ice reduces swelling, heat encourages healing by increasing the blood flow.
