Should we bowl?
« on: December 04, 2008, 06:41:19 AM »
We're scheduled to make up 4 games this afternoon.  But one of my teammates pointed out to me this morning that if we don't bowl we will "win" 3 of 4 points.  Winning all 4 puts us in a tie for second, 1 game out.  We've been killing them lately and (i'm betting) can win the league at the rate we're going.  So, would you bowl (and risk losing more than 1 point) or not?

Personally I would.  But it depends on what it all boils down to.  Are you in it for the money?  Or for the love of the game.  I bowl in youth's, so there isn't any money involved, so I go out there and give it my all everytime out.  If I miss leagues, I pre or post bowl.  And to be honest, I would bowl in a league with no prize fund in the adults if the price is fair.  I love the game itself, and winning to me... isn't everything.  I set personal goals, and strive to acheive them.

I look at everytime out as an opportunity.  You'll never shoot those honor scores if you don't bowl.  But then again, thanks to certain individuals, they wouldn't be honored via pre or post bowling. =P

How do we win points if we don't bowl.  I don't understand this either, but my teammate says that the league rules would allow our dummy scores, even if no one actually bowled.  I think he's wrong, but it's a "funny" sort of league.

I can't see not bowling, myself.

All of the leagues I have bowled in state that if you do not bowl that you will forfeit the matches.  If we have one or two bowlers absent we may use their average less 10 pins to tally score but if the entire team does not bowl or make up before the next weeks league we forfeit.

I would bowl.

Gotta pay for it anyway.  Might as well get something out of it.  BOWL!

I don't think you can use dummy scores against what the other team bowled.
If you don't bowl they usually  will have to bowl within 40 pins of their average to win the points..

but I may be wrong and it might be a thing where the USBC allows leagues to make up their own rule..
