Is 4% really a big deal?  That adds what...maybe 60 cents to a league night (presuming $15 for the three-game set).  If sixty cents a week makes or breaks you, then perhaps it is time to reconsider the activity in the first place.  My god, it isn't even a beer per month per league...

It all adds up.  4% here, 2% there, another 4% etc......  When does it end???  Income (state & fed), property, gas, retail, alcohol......  And now an entertainment such as bowling????  When does 4% jump to 6, then 8 then 10?  Enough is a freaking enough already.

I know bowling is having a hard time with this bad economy. The only thing 4% tax will do is make it worse. Like I said they are going to kill bowling in New York.

WHy shouldn't it be taxed?  It is a service or a rental of an area like anything else.

Why should bowling be excluded?

You don't see fees or taxes on the use of public parks and public school, city-owned fields for baseball/softball/football games, do you?

By your logic, those are also "rentals", rentals of the property for the time in which it takes to complete the game. Anybody can walk into a public park and play a game of flag football without having to pay for the time they're using the park.

Bowling already has a set fee (whatever the center charges for lines and open play, plus dues and other fees) and shouldn't be taxed when other recreational activities can be enjoyed for free in any public place. This looks to me more like singling bowling out.

Your logic is flawed, and the more accurate question is why should every other activity be excluded?

City leagues on city fields...fees far beyond what is probably reasonable.
Public parks?  Property tax is paying for that whether you set foot on the grass or not.  And yes, you are paying property tax whether you own the property or not since you can bet that the landlord has built it into the cost of a monthly lease...

Bottom line, I simply don't see an amount that runs less than a beer per month being that big a deal...or maybe it really is true that bowlers are inherently cheap.

Besides...there is quite likely a way of writing the whopping 4% tax paid off on the taxes.  Granted, that will require actually keeping files...something that also seems not to be a strong suit of bowlers.

I think a 260 would put you in the top tax bracket, under Dave's plan.

You are an idiot, and as I said earlier, if Patterson wants to tax something, he needs to tax foodstamps and welfare because those people pay ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! They contribute ZERO to society, they mooch of MY tax dollars as it is and now I'm expected to pay taxes on an activity?

The state legislature has to vote on Dave's proposals, but I think he wants welafare benefits increased - not decreased.

Sweety, the point NY residents are making is enough is enough. Dave wants to add a boatload of new 'fees' on top of a stifling a tax burden (all while increasing welfare bennies). Most centers are on life support as it is. If a few of us fill out comment cards that'll be sent to Albany, is it really a big deal to you? Or is it all about the politics for you?

Dave fell into the job, after Spitzer got caught patronizing ladies of the night and decided to spend more time w/ his family, ERR quit. Odds are Dave won't get elected next cycle.

Don't forget haircuts. Dave wants to 'fee' those as well. Do they still make flowbees?

We've been paying tax on bowling and golf out here for years, they call it a recreation tax.
Funny how governments find a way to tax everything we do

Actually some people already dumped soda on the lawn of the governor's mansion - in protest of the soda 'fee' he proposed.

three things in reference to your statements concerning my post about you...1.you definitely DON'T have all of your mental faculities together if you want to kill a man who is going to tax bowling!!!2.i'm most definitely NOT an idiot!!!3.you need to get a grip with REALITY and see the BIG PICTURE!!!americans don't go around killing people because they are taxing a sport that we love to partake in!!!if you still feel that way...im sure they have a mental hospital with your name on the incoming roster.and i will be happy to drive your crazy idiot behind there!!!
