IF I offer NIB 10 or 20 below internet prices what does it matter what I paid for them

I guess they don't want them that badly. If they are a current line ball with good specs, and you are a trusted seller, I don't see a problem with your pricing. Many people are just looking for a deal, and wouldn't buy another ball unless they get one.

where does deal start and garage sale price begin ? I guess I have work all my life and paid for what i want not looking for free. makes It hard to understand how I have been asked to sell new balls below what i paid for them. When I was young and worked in sales and was asked for a price reduction which I could only give from my share of commission's on the item meant I would have to take food off the table and give it to them. Could not do that and can not do that to day just for a sale today. I guess I am not desperate enough to sell balls below what i pay for them.

The economy is bad, and bowling is worse. I wouldn't take it personally. Bowling is a blue collar sport, and good blue collar jobs are going away. I guess you either sell the balls for what people will pay or you don't sell them. It works the same for any product or any company.
Also, it is my opinion that traffic on this site is down overall, and sales traffic is down to a trickle.

if bowling is down sooooooooooo much why are all the manufacturers

making new balls 4 times a year. at some time it all has to catch up with them maybe we will just end up leasing the balls like the car company's do.

Agreed. It's probably already happening. Manufacturers know that "new sells", in other words, there is a certain percentage of bowlers that want, and can afford the newest pill. R&D staff is on the payroll already, and the equipment is there. What do they care what they sell, they really just care how many. They've made balls basically disposable after a league season. By putting out new stuff, they gain some sales, but the pro shops and distributors lose. I don't think the current business model can last forever, but they are  either smarter than you and I, or just milking every last penny out of this business before it tanks completely.

You have learned the key rule of online sales. Don't try and compete in online sales. Your cost and what people are willing to pay are not the same thing. Even if your selling them for $10 or $15 less with free shipping then online sites in this economy and market place that doesn't equal a gurantee sale. In many cases Ebay and here have prices on many new bowling balls cheaper then online sites sometimes.

Not to mention the "sales" that many online sites run after a ball has been released for only a week or two. Example: The new Hammer Nail was on sale shortly after release at $89 shipped. Depending on who you order from and how much you order that is cheaper then what many proshops pay.

I'm not currently ordering any of the four EBI packages that are being released because even though I'm getting 4 new releases for $300 or less it is too much hassle to try and turn around and resale all four balls online and make a profit of $100 on your $300 investent. The Track package you can clear $100 profit(at best) after fees and shipping, the EBI, Columbia, and Hammer package has a profit margin closer to $60 online.

Not to nit pick, but if you can sell them for $20 less than internet sales, it implies you didn't exactly pay what you "should" have under normal circumstances.  Hard to complain too hard when the buyers want the same deal.

Todays society wants the cheapest price possible. Bowling is one of the few things out there where consumers can buy product at their retailers cost. I understand how as a seller you would be upset about that.

This has been going on in bowling for many many many years now and despite manufactures attempts to stop this it hasn't happened yet. EBI was the most recent to try it, and I would say they did not succeed in doing what they set out to do by any means. Only  slowed it down temporarily. The markup for proshops is in accessories, drilling, and other items. Not in the bowling balls. Charging $15 for a thumb insert that cost $2, or $10-15 for a pair of finger inserts that cost maybe $2 ect ect.

If your trying to sell bowling balls online to make money consistently you are better off to quit while your still ahead. If your just trying to unload some items real quick you changed your mind on that is a different story.

Badbeard,

Im assuming your selling older NIB equipment? Ball companies are making you obsolete. Why spend $10-20 less on a Nexxus when they're coming out with the Nexxxus? Same thing with Defiant Edge, etc. Companies have trained the consumer to what the new and latest toy rather than a good ball that will fit their game better. Flood the market and youll make a killing. I think ball companies are also not making as many because ive never seen so many back orders. Just my opinion.

I have bought and sold many NIB balls on here over the years and if the ball you have is not the latest and greatest on the market, don't plan on selling for anything close to buddies or Ebay. Certain balls go on closeout lists very quickly and if that happens to the ball your trying to sell, expect to sell it for a large loss or keep it for a boat anchor. I have lost $40 -$50 on some NIB balls here but that's the way it goes if you don't sell it when its new and hot.

You have had that Track 919C on here trying to sell it for months and that ball is not going to be an easy sale at any price because there is now (or soon will be) a newer 900 series ball (912T) that has great early reviews and no one wants the older balls anymore unless they were great and that ball was far from that. Good luck.
