I got an email today about a change by the USBC. It involves a change in the maximum RG differential allowed by the USBC. It said that the maximum allowable RG differential will change from 0.090 to 0.060. The company this seems to affect is Hammer/Ebonite as they will have to stop the Saw blade and V2strongR. The change is suppose to go into effect Feb.1st. I got the email from Bowlingball.com. It is the USBC's attempt to rein in the high scores being posted.
Any opinions on this?

Once again.
This doesn't make any balls currently approved illegal. They can continue to manufacture and sell stuff that's already been approved.
Any NEW designs will have to have a differential of less than 0.060.
That's all. That's the only effect. And it doesn't effect much out there.

Just some of the more radical stuff. And since the coverstocks are so strong, a lot of the mfgs are coming out with lower diff stuff anyway.

I agree with what Len Nicholson said on his Phantom radio show.This change will affect NOTHING....Any ball released before FEB. 1 is grandfathered in....So I can use my AZO fantasy x solid(.071 diff)...Now just what did that regulation accomplish???   A ball with even say a .050 diff is STILL giog to flare alot.

As I stated before on this topic,I'd personally like to see Sport conditions for all sanctioned leagues.I would embrace the challenge of tougher lane conditions.I don't think the USBC has the guts to impose this,But I'd like to see them give it a try.Instead of outlawing particle equipment(another thing I can't see them doing)we need tougher conditions so that playing field is more level...As far as how THAT can be accomplished,I'd like to be the fly on the wall at the next meeting.

IMO USBC is just trying to make it look like its doing something about the integrity of bowling.  But at least it tells me that they acknowledge that the integrity of the sport no longer exists.  As long as they hang on to the 3 unit rule which legalized lane blocking they will never be able to restore integrity.  They need to address the whole scope of the sport, balls, pins, lane conditions, whatever.  The "System of Bowling" was supposed to do all of this but was flawed from its inception regarding conditions as Roger Dalkin as much as admitted in a recent Bowlers Journal article and ABC/WIBC/USBC doesn't have the guts to do anything about it.
