NO BACKEND
« on: March 14, 2014, 11:45:35 AM »
I seem to have a serious problem with this shot and locking for suggestions on how to attack this pattern... The volume seem to be medium and the middle is flooded and no side boards to bounce and the backends are on vacation...  ;D....

I am a cranker than can play down and n but I use two fingers so the rotation is extreme.. Nothing is giving a strong enough reaction to get a consistant shot.... Ball speed is also around 16 to 17...

Strongest ball is DV8 Nightmare and its not grabbing hard enough...

First thing I would recommend is to check the surface on your Nightmare.  Try to get it to an appropriate surface for the shot.

Second, you will need to find where the driest part of the lane is.  If it is outside, then you may need to move right and keep your launch angle straight (trying not to belly the ball at all).  If the driest part is in the backend, then you need to adjust your breakpoint to a point deeper inside and not give the pocket away.

Many bowlers think they are playing straight up the lane when in fact their launch angle is away from the pocket.  Start by keeping your launch angle straight and make adjustments from there.  You may need to have someone watch you to ensure your launch angle is correct.

Whe it gets really slick, I try to get softer with my speed and my hand. Think roll, not spin. Spin = skid. I've had days where my ball is hooking very little but my scores are good because I'm in the pocket and the ball isn't skidding near the pocket.

X2!!

Seriously though, I took my Nightmare down to 1000 and that seemed to help a bit for me, but it got markedly better when I later had a P3 hole put in it .  Starts sooner and turns up sharper than it ever used to, and now works for me.  I had just about given up on this ball, but will keep it now.

One of my favorite bowling stories.

Years ago, 1st year of lefty bowling.  A strong Ball at the time....Amforce 4 from AMF, many many many shots in the afternoon with dryish heads and sloppy sloppy backend no strikes.

I say to my pro a pretty good senior touring pro (part time)....."I need a particle ball, I can't strike!".  He says......"Can't or won't?".

I say "wha"???

He says "look at the dots", and move more left if you have to....!  19 in a row later  almost immediately thereafter....I think I learned something.

"Can't or won't"?  Used it this weekend on a similar shot!

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS you use two fingers?  So do I, and most on this website...How different?
