how to figure out my rev rate. I know it has something to do with frame by frame video and tape on the ball, but how exactly do I do it? I can record be bowling on my digital camera and I have a program that can play it frame by frame so how do I go about finding it out?

standard digital video is 29.97 frames per second so all you have to do is count the number of times that the ball rotates in 30 frames and mutiply that by 60 and you get RPM
this is as simple as I can explain it, hope it helps
you may want to check the camera specs in the manual that came with the camera to verify that it does use the standard FPS
one other thing the tape should be placed in a line from your PAP to just above the finger holes

there are two ways to find your pap
1 - throw a low flare ball up the center of the lane so you get plenty of oil on it then draw a line from your track through grip center over 6 3/4 inches at a 90° angle to the track the end of the line represents your PAP
2 - this process is the same only after you throw the ball use a marking pencil to trace your track then place the ball in a spinner to where the line you traced is sitting level in the spinner and the positive side of the ball is facing up then turn the spinner on look at the line you traced if it is level the line will be stable (not wobbling) adjust if required then use the marking pencil and place it on top of the ball while it is spinning move the pencil around until it goes from making a circle to a dot this dot is your PAP

Method 2 is more accurate but either will work fine

any questions let me know

rr = the cube root of the quadratic equation ax^2 + bx + c squared, multiplied by half the weight of the ball, and divided by the coefficient of friction halfway down the lane.

In other words, just throw the damn ball.  When you start bowling like Robert Smith, you can worry about calculating your rev rate.

Mine is so puny, why would I want to know what it is?
