Title: Norm Duke Fix?
Post by: MI 2 AZ on April 30, 2018, 05:25:53 PM
In the Dec 2011 edition of Bowlers Journal, Norm Duke replied to a question.  I was wondering if there was any further work done towards this in the past years since this was printed?  Also, how would that solution work?

Q:  If you were in charge, what would you do to fix bowling?

A:  If I were to try to fix the scoring problem in the sport, I would eliminate oil on the lanes.  An oilless offering is out there, and I believe we need it to make the game more consistent throughout the world.

No oil? I would love to ask Norm to explain that one

Bill Taylor had that idea decades ago.

Bill Taylor had more than the idea.  He had workable lanes.  Abc fought it to a standstill, probably with some help from the ball companies.  The word was some top bowlers tried it out.  Was low scoring, to say the least.  Just hearsay, but word was Anthony couldn't break  200.

For decades, it was Bill Taylor vs the rest of the bowling community. I got to spend 2 days with him and sat and listened to him until he excused himself, and I had lunch with him at the airport. Truely a remarkable man.
