Hello, I just signed on to this site.
I have recently taken up bowling again after about ten years.
I was a league bowler, and am interested in joining a league with my wife this fall.
When we have been out bowling, I have been using house balls and shoes ,since I had to leave my old balls when I moved.
Now I am trying to decide which ball would be best for me now.
I am left handed and like to throw at the third arrow, hoping to hit the pocket on the left or right side. I like some hook in the delivery but, want to be able to throw a straight shot for some spares.
Any advice?

I would look at something like the RotoGrip Saturn.  Solid cover plus a good core.  It should hook enough to get you started and be controllable for spares.  If you're sort of starting over, I'd stay away from pearl covers because they can be too jumpy when the hit the dry part of the lane.  This ball has a better core than some of the entry level balls and is only a few dollars more.

I'd do a lot of reading on this site...You will get a good idea of what you will need within a month or so. Don't be afraid of asking questions.

Questions:
1. Were you thoring a finger tip or conventional grip drilling?

2. Do you recall if your ball track was high (near the fingers and thumb), or lower (farther away from the fingers/thumb)?

3. Were you a league bowler? What did you average?

There are a lot of good reasonably priced balls, from a lot of different manufacturers.

Balls and lines that may be of particular interest would be the Brunswick BVP line, the Classic Performance line from Track, DT's Vendettas, the Hammer Doom.  All are good balls that are very versatile, hard hitting, and reasonably priced.

For your first ball, I'd suggest an entry level reactive resin ball such as the Ebonite Tornado series or the Brunswick Power Groove series.  You should be able to get one of these at your local pro shop for less than $100 drilled.

Thanks, for all the information, but a lot of the things these ball sites talk about sound and looks like greek to me is there a site that could define some of the jargon used in the bowling world?
I must sound like a complete newb.
