Not much Reactive Gear
« on: July 10, 2003, 12:26:55 PM »
Having a look through some of the ball company's gear and not many of them seem to be bringing out plain reactive gear, especially in the mid price range. Either they seem to be reactive pearl, or polished or with particle specs etc or just plain particle balls. Pearlised, polished and particle seem to be the big thing.

There are some reactive balls out there, just not as many as there use to be. I guess the market has changed, is everyone wanting bigger backends these days???

I too have pondered on the demise of the reactive in the near future. My backend is big enough already..ask my wife.

I will admit that there does seem to be an shift in the market with a lot of companies now producing particle equipment.  I for one can definately see a place for the equipment...but I myself don't like it for most conditions short of heavier oil.

There are still a bunch of really good balls on the market that are reactive and in the mid-price range.  Hell as long as Ebonite keeps making the V2 I'm a happy camper!

Jeff,
I'm pretty sure he's talking about new solid resins in the mid-priced category.
SS is nowhere near new-ish, Top Fuel is premium price.

I have to agree.  Particle has taken over the market.  Whether it is a light load or a heavy load; a pearl or a solid, particle is taking over in all different forms.  Think about it.  When resin came along, urethane faded out.  Now that companies are coming out with new and improved forms of particle, resin is starting to fade just a little bit so far.  I believe that particle is hurting the sport more than it is helping it.  First of all, bowling centers are only going to lay down so much oil on the lanes.  Particles are known to soak up the oil more than resins.  The only way the new "hook monsters" are going to amount to anything, is for the centers to lay down more oil.  Bowling centers will only do so much because it isn't "cost effective" for a center to keep up with the technology.  Secondly, have we not reached to end of the spectrum when it comes to hook potential?  Manufacturers are coming out with new balls so fast, that a ball can't really make a lengthy impact on the sport outside of maybe the V2 sanded.  Some will release 2, 3, or more balls at the same time.  Do not understand it.  Maybe someone out there can shed more light on the subject.  But, I see particle doing to resin what resin did to urethane.
