Random Questions.
« on: March 06, 2007, 09:44:04 AM »
I did a search to see if something like this was already started and only came up with Ron Clifton's. That didn't tell me what I wanted to know however.

I went to the last day of Match play for the U.S. open and saw so many great bowlers (3 of the 7 I was watching Weber. Incredible...). The entire time I was amazed at how great these guys were. All I could think of was how sweet it would be to be able to bowl for a living.
A while back, Chris Barnes had said that he averaged 200+ his senior year in high school and said that he was a late bloomer. My senior year I was only averaging 177 or something. My initial reaction to that was "That must mean I haven't even been watered yet!"

My questions are how old are you? What Age did you start seriously bowling? What is your current average? Do you have any desire to be more than just a league bowler?

I'm 20 (going to be 21 at the end of the month. Watch out world!!!) I started seriously bowling around 15-16 with a 120 average. Right now I'm sitting at 185. It was higher at the beginning of the season (192), but then reality set in. I want to start getting into tourny's to build skill, but money is the biggest restriction. The regional tour is going to make a stop an hour or so away and I may try that if $$$ permits. I know I won't win, but I would love the experience.

Thanks all, and good bowling!

take the $300-400 you would spent to get into that regional, and get coaching..

Smash is actually right.  While tourneys are a great experience builder, I think at this point in your career that seeking some good coaching is the way to go.  Who knows, you may get a few lessons and unlock far more potential than you thought you had.  After all, you can always do a regional later.

My Senior year in highschool I had an average of 208.  Then I quit, not voluntarily, but because my parents wanted to move, so I had no one to bowl with.

I'm 24 now and this is the end of my third year being back.  The game is definately not the same.  I remember when we bowled for trophies and high averages.  I remember when having the highest average in the league was bragging rights for the summer, while all my friends swore they would knock me off the top the following year.  I remember when winning the league championship was all that mattered.  Or when they called 5 mystery number winners and each person got a candy bar.  I remember when if someone shot a personal best game or series, they would announce it over the PA system.  I remember when if someone had a shot at 300, the whole alley would stop and watch.  When does that happen anymore?  Only if someone has a shot at 900....900 are you kidding me?

P.S. with a 185 average, you can't bowl a Regional.  Unless the rule has changed or something....when I bowled in mine I had to have proof that I averaged over 200 in a league.

I started bowling pretty serious at the age of 15 in adult leagues I am 47.5 now at the age of 18 I carried a 217 average in 3 scratch leagues and around a 200 average in three handicap leagues I also worked at a bowling center for three years in the area where I lived at the tim,and on the two nights I did not bowl league I would practice like 30-40 games on each of those days. I bowled so much that after a few years I was burned out I then took a 10 year layoff from bowling and then in 1999 I started bowling again.

In my senior year I was at 205 or so. I started at 15 and am now 20. I've hit a little slump so my averages have fallen a little (look at profile) But my high average was 210.
