now ive seen it all
« on: May 19, 2008, 12:17:33 PM »
tonight in a small trio summer league i was bowling a pair over from a lefty he's a good guy but has never shot a 600 sanctioned he averages around 145 or 150 tonight he runs 19 in a row some were close to the pocket most wern't he ends up shooting a 760 something series so in away he still hasnt shot a 600. has the game gotten this easy were you can go threw the nose 7 times in a row and carry i mean shooting 300 pins over your average is unheard of. im not slamming him or anything im happy for him but its frustrating to have 1 ball out the pocket and shoot a mear 650

Sometimes you go 4-4 and barely hit the ball, other times you go 0-4 and hit them on a rope.

The game didn't all of a sudden get that much easier for him, he just got extremely lucky.  He'll probably never sniff 700 again in his life, unless of course he uses  this as motivation to get better.

My father who is averaging a high 227 this year instead of his usual 217 shot his first 800 the other day. He needed to shoot 29x for 800, and the 10th shot he missed by about 4 boards right and hit the 2 board, and still wound up in the pocket.

Of course when you go through the nose 7 times and carry all of them its just dumb luck. Dumb luck almost cost my team a league title this week. The opposing team went through the nose constantly, but somehow always tripped away the split, leaving makeable spares. It was insane, happened every single time, until the fill ball in the 10th frame where its worthless lol.

That's just bowling.  Some people just have a career night.  Seems like it's just against me.....    Oh well, when you have a good just think back.

Highest game I've ever shot was 296 -- four Brooklyns.

I've got about 20 game of 270 or above that I've nailed the pocket every time but couldn't carry one or two hits. However, my 296 was all over the place, and that's the one that gave me the plaque on my wall.

My only 300 came 13 years ago when I had been bowling for about 1 year. I was averaging about 185. I recall two shots going through the nose, carrying domino style, and a few brooklyns. I put all three in the 10th flush at least. That game was 80% luck if not more.

But still, over a hundred people stood behind my pair. Nobody else was bowling. It was explosive when the 12th shot carried.

Last week, someone shot 300, and it sounded like someone picked up the 6-7-10 split.

I shot a 266 with eight brooklyns, two honest strikes, and two opens.  Both of the opens were on the honest side of the head pin.

Luck plays an important part in any sport. In a recent golf tournament, Paul Goydos who is a rather ordinary golfer sank many long putts and ended up tied for first place. In the Clash of champions, Lynda Barnes beat Sean Rash in one game. Granted, she is a very good bowler but I'll bet any amount of money on Rash on a best of seven match. This does not mean that bowling is a mediocre sport.

Can't shoot 266 with 2 opens

actually, you can

if you count the fill shots an open in the 10th

8- X X X X X X X X X9- 266...some people don't count a 10th frame as closed if the dont pick up the spare after the second shot..

just saying

Lots of luck involved in bowling as a whole.

A few months ago I had 1 ball out of the pocket for an 831 set.

2 weeks later, 0 balls out of the pocket for a 670 set.

Little thinks like hand position could be off, ball could be cleaner one day and therefore driving stronger at teh pin deck all kinds of things.

This guy shooting 700 one night with carry like that doesn't mean the game is too easy.  Now if he does it 3 or 4 times, then there is something to be said.

That's a part of what's so great, and what sucks so bad about bowling.  It's great that you can get lucky and shoot well, but on the other hand, it completely sucks that you can also pump 36 in the hole and have to shoot at 30 single pin spares...

Stupid game...

it happens. i was carrying a 140something average  the first nite i got my liberator. first game outta the box i rolled a 257 and was carrying the world mostly pocket shots though but a few head scratchers ( im a lefty and put one in the 6 pin and got a strike?!?!!?)  and then two 18x games for a 611 set. man the other team was PO'd. but we all have to get lucky sometime.
