Are centers finally getting it?

I was in a house yesterday and checking out their leagues.  I noticed a lot were running for less than 35-36 weeks.  I saw quite a few for 18 weeks, some 24, and a couple for 28.

I also noticed that more seem to be doing away with prize funds and going with trophies and individual prizes.  Instead of seeing the using lineage of almost $20, there were more that were closer to $15.

Some centers in my area will drop the length of schedule to leagues 32 and 33 week leagues pay the same for lineage which is mainly $10.50 for 3 games plus in-house banking and computation but you still have to check their math  for $$$ and average, points, etc. as they can make mistakes and do.

You can drop your length of schedule under 32 weeks to say 28 weeks but you'll pay more for lineage so they will make it up lineage wise.  

IMO every bowler should know what they are paying for lineage and what you are putting into the prize fund plus cost of sanctioning nat'l and local.

At my house, they vary the lineage with the length of the season.  30 weeks, it's X, and for every two weeks we add, knock off $0.25.  I'd just as soon bowl 48 weeks a year anyway, so a 36-week season doesn't bother me at all.

Last season, we nearly added two more teams to the roster and the secretary wanted to bump us from 30 weeks to 34 weeks so that we could still bowl everyone twice plus four position rounds.  Between the drop in lineage and the increase in teams, that was about 50% more prize money for the four extra weeks bowling.  Unfortunately the two teams never showed up.

My house's leagues only last for 11 weeks for $6 every week for 3 games. Also, there is no money prize, just cheap plastic trophies without engraving on them, just stickers, lol

Not here in SW FL. Leagues are all 35-36 weeks. Lineage is $10.50 for 2008-9, first time it hasn't increased in 6-7 years. League fees vary $16-$17 for mixed leagues, $20-21 for a men's league.

Not here in the Sac area.  Winter leagues typically go 30+ weeks.  Only a few in the entire assoc. have a split winter season.  And not one adult league in this area does trophies anymore.  That's something we only see in Jr leagues and then sometimes only in the younger Jr leagues.  Prize funds vary, but most senior leagues have next to none and lower lineage due to their preferance for daytime scheduling.  

The split season is a good idea though.  But with most of the centers having a full winter schedule, they would rather book a 30+ week league then take a chance with a shortened one.  We have a few leagues that would like to switch centers and they cannot due to the others having full schedules.  

What is becoming more common though is a multi man team roster.  So not every teammember is obligated to the entire 30+ weeks.  Its kind of a rotation.

Amen Bones.  Some houses in our area (Baltimore) have always accepted less than 36 weeks.  But you have to ask, they don't volunteer.  You will pay more per line to get the shorter schedules which I think is fair.
