Last night I witnesses one of the funniest things I've ever seen at a bowling alley. I always arrive early for league practice, and as soon as the lights were turned on I was in line with my Track Champ. I stood center and threw just right of the second arrow, my normal shot to find lane conditions. To my total amazement, the ball hit the lane, literally turned over and hooked off the lane just past the ARROWS!! I was checking my wrist to see if I broke anything, with a blank look on my face as the other team snickered at me and my teammates looked at me with a raised eyebrow. I shook it off as a fluke, walked up threw my second shot and watched the ball do the exact same thing! I watched this scene repeated with each teammate and then each opposing team member all returning either laughing or or crying (as the one guy who finally got his plastic ball to hook) We actually had the whole league crowded around to watch, and others tried to see who could keep the ball on the lane the longest. Only one guy struck with a 12 lb house ball.
One of the guys ran up to the manager and told him there was 0 oil on the lane. The manager at first blew him off, but watched as everyone's ball hooked clean off the lane. He walked out, and walked down to the arrows and dragged his finger across the lane and sure enough there was just wood. He ran to the back and grabbed the oil machine and put a fresh coat down. From there it was business as usual, but apparently what happened was the guy oiling the lanes stripped the oil off, and then went to the next lane without putting anything back on. Amazing and funny stuff! Anyone ever see this happen?
