State banning league pots, brackets,etc.
« on: April 04, 2009, 02:03:55 PM »
I was just told by a friend that all pots, brackets, etc have been banned in 3 of our local houses in NJ. Something to do with either the state gaming commission or a related party. Nationwide's local owner was fined 30K.

Anyone else dealing with this? Really wondering the real reason behind it.

Here's the 59 bowling centers in New Jersey (even I didn't know there were this many and there used to be more) that have been fined and warned by the New Jersey "POLITICIANS" (AKA Low life pond scum):

I have read all the posts and ask myself, not against anyone here but I still ask....Has anyone researched your state laws on gambling ? I have my state's laws and we don't violate any of them doing just what most have posted here that are being shut down.

The hardest thing I had to find out was what determines 'gambling' as defined by state law. Once I did that, read about the definition of 'sport gaming' and there's the difference in my state. What we do is considered 'sport gaming' and not gambling.

I've called the state, read online the laws and none of the leagues here violate any of the "gaming laws".

NY already plans to tax bowling, so maybe they'll tax brackets too.

charlest, there's actually more. the list i have has a total of 73. i've been on top of this since the start. i have been in touch with the gaming commission and right now this is where it stands...
50/50s are no longer as well as card games!
mystery doubles, strike ball, brackets and pots are okay.
this came straight from the gaming commission. the letter that all the houses got was not worded correctly. another letter will be forthcoming, and your host centers will allow it. they started again last night in our house.
again, bottom line is
no 50/50's and no card games.
This had happened 14 years ago in jersey and they said you could as long as you gave out candy or something to those buying tickets. somehow it all started again. As far as card games, its always been illegal because you have a bar on the premises. the message that the commission gave me was that when people drink, they bet more and have a disadvantage. I guess the commission compares a bowling center to a pub. Stupid, i know. Tonight, I'm meeting with the owner of the center along with the county secretary and another delegate besides myself.
I will keep you guys posted.
Good bowling to all!
Storm

Thanks, Storm.
I understand 50/50s versus pot and brackets. (Although carry at some NJ houses seems to be as much of a gamble as 50/50s. )

I'm afraid the problem is really the politicians going after little crap like this, instead of fixing the serious problems in the state budget. Their sole objetcive in their every waking moment is how to keep the pork barrel rolling.
(Did you know your NJ state representative is entitled to a pension of their salary, more or less, for serving even a 2 year term? while the rest us have to work 30 years to see 30%of our salary if the company still has a pension plan?)
So all they can think about is how to tax the living crap, literally, out of every working person, while cutting nothing. Corzine should be de-balled.

GETOFF .. don't think that's going to be too easy! Centers have to protect themselves from fines .. allowing you to continue would hurt their pockets .. can't see that happening!

They banned 50/50. But in our house we are still allowed poker games and strike ball.  I guess for now they are saying that if it take skill to win then it is ok.  who knows

How dare any of you have fun! Bowling is a fight to the death competition, and there is no room for your petty gambling!

One of the bowling centers on the list does not have a bar. This has nothing to do with alcohol, just our stupid gaming laws in NJ, and the politicians trying to justify the employment of their friends in those good-for-very-little-of-anything patronage jobs, by persecuting the little guy.
