I am curious, how many balls do you have drilled up in your collection that you can throw right now? I know a few guys with quite a few.I have 32, is that too many?
-
If you have 32 you don't have one. How many you need depends on the type of bowling you do. If your a once a week decent one house bowler 2 and a spare is more than sufficient. If you bowl multiple houses you may need to add a couple more. If you get into bowling multiple tournaments and sport leagues and want to bowl at the highest levels you will need a few more. If your doing all of this a rotation of 8-10 should be sufficient. Not to say their is something hugely wrong with having lots of balls but if your actively deciding between 32 balls on a nightly basis something is wrong.
-
More than 40. I CAN throw any of them, but maybe 10 are used in any month.
-
I would say having 8-10 for competing at the highest level isn't enough. But that is my opinion.
-
I have 83 at this counting. Contrary to what others believe, I don't think that is too much. I don't use all 83, but I do have a standard rotation of about 25 or so. The rest of my balls involve specific drillings, and specific surface preps for when I go to certain tournaments. My collection of older balls with their milder covers really helps on drier conditions.
Knowing how certain tournaments tend to prep their lanes before hand, I will have an advantage by knowing which area of my equipment to concentrate on and carry with me. It has worked well so far. I rarely miss cashing in some form.

Im not sayin I use all 32, I bowl in a travel league in which all are THS so I really have about a 6 ball rotation depending on house. but i bowl a sport league so I am always looking for a ball for the different patterns, also I have duplicates of some balls with different drillings. my post was more about the numbers of balls guys own, as I am still adding balls that peek my interest!

Hey! if the equipment peeks your interest, keep buying what makes YOU happy! I know one person on this site that's probably owned well over 100 or more balls at one time. BillDozer has probably had me beat by a long shot, in terms of quantity. LOL!!

Well, if we are talking about balls we own(not just drilled ones), I have over 200. LOL

i have about 15 drilled and ready to go. 6-8 in my normal sport arsenal 4 in my house shot arsenal and a couple spot balls for specific patterns or whatever. my problem is with more balls brings more problems because i think about the ball choice too much.....you can only bring so many to the center so i try to limit my ball drillings
-
I have 7 that I would actually consider using, 4 more that I could throw, but probably never would.
-
I have probably 25 drilled and carry 6 for tournaments, 4 for league usually.
I've learned that if you drill a ball and love it great. If it is just okay, get rid of it. It will hit the shelf and never get used.
I have 8 that cover a full tournament arsenal depending on the condition from heavy to light. If it doesn't wow me, and can replace one of the 8 to be retired then it needs to go elsewhere.

You are entirely too logical about this kid and will never become a proper ball whore with that attitude. ;D

Milo, you don't live in Tulsa, do you? See link.

Is this Milo's stockpile?

That's pretty funny! But not me, I live in California. And mine are in racks.
[/size]
Four racks total, six shelves per rack, each shelf can hold ten balls. Except for the "display" balls.
See attached picks.

Kid ain't playing!
-
About a dozen.
I only take three to league, spare ball included. Most of them get donated when they're discontinued or replaced. I'd rather see them getting used than gathering dust somewhere.
-
I was nearly at the 40 mark but sold a few...I'm at like 35ish with 5 nib. Too much!

We're similar. I have 9. 4 are in the locker but I usually only take 2 out and the spare for league. I usually take 5 (4 strike and plastic) when I go to other houses for tournaments/UBA/etc.
I also donate my older equipment to friends who look like they could use a ball. I only have 2 balls that I am keeping around for mostly sentimental reasons (I can still throw them as they still fit though).
-
I have 12 balls on the rack. Currently only 3 see regular use, but they all fit, so I can throw any of them.
-
I have 12 and that's after adding my Tribal Fire. However, the oldest stuff is being sold or donated by the end of the summer. Normally 3 come out for league.
-
More than I need, fewer than I want. 7 right now, carry three to leagues and 4 to tourneys.
-
Too many is relative...the broader question is whether someone knows how they will react when compared to another since, during competition, you have to be able to make an equipment change and know what the new piece is going to do.
I couldn't tell you just how many I have, but I have many going back into the Roto RH of the 70's (and basically stopping with the loss of our Tour in 2003). It was mostly the Roto equipment that went on the road with me, but I also knew the relationships between the Storm, Columbia and Faball pieces in the collection for the rare occasions it went on the road (or if I got bored and wanted to do something different with league).
