Odd Pin Combination
« on: December 01, 2003, 07:06:26 AM »
A guy on the next lane over left an interesting pin combination tonite. He left the 5 7 10. Everybody let him have it. I didn't see how he threw it, but I am guessing with ribbing he got it had to be some kind of strange pocket hit. He just stood there stunned....It was pretty funny!

The only way to leave that is have not enough turn into the pins at the point of impact, and you have to hit a little light.  I've seen it left several times.

He deserved whatever limp-wristed "no five, no drive" jokes were made about him.

There was a house that I bowled at in the early 80's, called Royal Oak Lanes, that you would see at least one a night left there.  But those were the days of urethane, plastic, and rubber.

A LILLY! LOL! I wish they would have announced it over the PA, that would have topped it off! The whole league should enjoy the moment.

Out here in the west, we call that the "sour apple". I don't know why, but that's what it's called.

Not as funny when you are the recipient.

I have heard it called both, but more frequently as the "sour apple". The way to pick it up is to pick up the 5-7 with the ball (RH) while tossing your purse at the 10 pin....lol. I have only seen it made once while someone "No Thumbed" a 10lb house ball to the left side of the 5-pin, which deflected into the 7 and shot the 5 into the 10.

We call it the Bubble Gum here, and I just seen one last night on our pair

We usually tell them to take their ball back to KMart and get their money back

I left one a couple of weeks ago

I  just wish I could time one when I'm bowling the Hoinke -- when you get in their sidepot thing, leaving a 5-7-10 wins you $100.00.

(I already got the Headpin Dummy towel)

Bones -- When I was bowling in Texas in the '70s it was called the "Lily" also, but I never found out why.  Do you (or anyone else) know the origin of the name?  --  JohnP

Several years ago I watched a PWBA touring pro leave two in a row during match play in a regional.
Yes - they were on different lanes.
And - to make it even worse, it was her home house.
I'll never forget it.

Who, me???

My wife started a "housewives" league a few weeks ago.  I went one afternoon to practice and to watch her.  I saw three lilly's left that afternoon.  Yes, one was my wife's.  She does throw a 9# plastic ball about 10 mph.
