things I don't understand.

Why does every suggest Urethane to new bowlers.

when Resin came out and oil/lane surfaces changed it put a lot of bowlers out of contention. where they good? Yes.

could they compete? no. they had to learn a new technique or perish.

why do tell newbies to suffer like this?

Omega,
IMHO,I think it's because urethane is an easy way to start teaching a new bowler the concept of hook and how to adjust to lane conditions with a ball that is readable----I.E., one that won't get halfway down a dry lane and skid/snap into the left gutter.
I'm not sure as to the reason that some of the top pros of the late 80's/early 90's couldn't adjust to the reactive equipment when it first came out.

I started my two bowling children with plastic. I taught proper body alignment and release and refused to purchae them reactive until they averaged 170 - 180. It took them about 1.5 years (13 to 15 years of age). Then I slowely got them reactive stuff and there average moved up very fast.

Yea, and why the cost of high end balls is so much when it doesn't cost that much more to produce them?

Supply and Demand; the cost of middlemen, etc.

Anything produced for a specific industry always seems to have a higher retail price than something produced for generic purposes.

My dad also taught me to bowl with plastic and I didn't own a urethane bowling ball until I was 19 in college- I was a solid 190 average bowler with a yellow dot. I think it's very important for people to learn correct form and release before you even think about putting a resin ball in their hands- and I also think their spare shooting should at least be around 80% before you think about a resin ball...

Too many people learn how to hook and not how to throw it straight, I see a lot of young kids throwing 6 plus strikes a game and then flagging 3 pins because they don't know how to flatten our their ball...

Actually, I'm beginning to think that the best beginner ball, assuming the person is motivated to learn to bowl well, is a mild particle, like say, the Power Groove Proactive.

This type of ball will react to proper hooking technique, without overreacting on dry backends that the beginner has no way of knowing how to control.
