Question about Lilac City Tournament
« on: April 14, 2013, 07:16:40 PM »
For those who have bowled in the Lilac City tournament either at AMF Gates or AMF Terrace Garden Lanes in the Rochester, NY area, how do they play?  Also, what types of balls and/or surfaces can be suggested?  I was thinking of taking a doubles team down there in the next couple of weeks and was looking for some opinions.

Stats and arsenal are listed in my profile.  I appreciate any feedback you can give.

Gates plays a lot like thruway lanes.   It's synthetic lanes with wood approaches.  I'd take whatever you throw at thruway and you should be fine.

Terrace gardens is synthetic too I think.  I haven't bowled there since juniors and that was in the mid 90's

Cool, thanks Brian.  That's easy enough since I've bowled at Thruway plenty of times in the past and have stuff drilled there.

Any time.    Gates actually will remind you of thruway it's almost set up the same

straighter is always greater at gates. the middle of the lane topography is very slick which will make is seem like the pattern plays tighter

I have bowled in in the last few years, don't remember which one is which. But the doubles house has always played dry for me. Scored well with my vibe playing straight up 5. But it breaks down fast and have to keep moving. Team house has held up good for me. Using a Jigsaw corner playing 10 to 5. But I am left handed with a good amount of ball speed. So i am sure it will play different for others.

Budda- sounds like that may be Terrace Garden since I think the team events are at Gates.  Thanks for the feedback though about the 1 house playing a little more dry.

If all goes well, I'm planning to make the trip out.  I figure that my Defiant, Outlaw, Hy-Road or Nomad Dagger and the Frantic should round the arsenal out nicely.

I think we will be up there the weekend of June 22. If you head there before that, let me know how they are playing.
Good luck!
